finally got the damn thing running. ive been lurking here for a while, using the archives (mostly for wiring woes) and other things. ive bought the car in feb, and pulled the motor in march. i finally got it running a few days ago (mid september). its pretty damn awesome to drive. just thought id share it with everyone on here, since the forums helped me so much in getting it running.

dont have any pics of it with the stock 4x4 ride height. this was with the coilovers already on and lowered. the car was bone stock when i bought it.

considering i did all this between work and school, im pretty pleased with the outcome. the car still needs some small details wrapped up, but it runs and drives great as of now. http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/cool.gif

That's pretty cool. all of the pics didn't load for me. Can you make them smaller? My car has that same dent in the same place on the rf fender. I wonder what caused it.

Very nice, I am starting the same swap, and have a couple questions for you if you dont mind.

Which ka motor is that?
Looks like a front sump motor, and a modified sway bar, was there anything else done to get the motor to fit?
I was thinking of the McKinney Motorsports modified crossmember, but have been recently told that it may be possible and easier to change the pan and sump and leave the crossmember and swaybar alone. Any thoughts?
Is that a Mad-Dat steering brace?
Did you use anything else besides the wiring diagrams from the donor motors to wire?
Where are you from, If you are anywhere close to Seattle, I would love to take a look at it.

Thanks,
Micah

the motor is from a 98 240sx.

the engine xmember, sway bar, and steering center link were all changed to fit the motor. the oilpan and pickup are stock.

i would say either way is the same. i like the thought of using stock oilpan/pickups myself, but id go with whatever route is cheaper for you.

yes its a maddat steering brace.

the wiring wasnt very hard. the 510 harness has to be reworked a little to work with the ka24 alternator/starter. power must be sent to about 4 wires on the ka harness for the motor to run. other than that the wiring was just plug and play. the 510 chasis harness and 240sx harnesses were mainly untouched. although i did have the fsm for the 240sx, i got most of the information (f3 plug pinout) from this forum.

im in fresno, california.

Thanks for the reply. Hopefully I'll be showing some similar pics soon.

Seen it for sale on the Dime Quarterly and I honestly think your asking too much for it. Maybe if the body was clean.

Soft metal and fat mechanics. http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Every 510 has had that dent at one time or another, it's from leaning up against it while working on it.

I've seen this statement before, don't modify the oil pan and pickup, I have seen 4 people go this route, and seen all of them end up going back to the reversed crossmember and front sump pan and swaybar. I saw 2 of those die of oil starvation. Especially now that front sump sway bars are readily available, and just use a reversed stock crossmember.....

Entix:

Another question, did you custom fab that intake, or find one for sale like that? I am looking for a way to keep my intake on the intake side of the motor, but it seems like I will have to custom fab if I do.

Thanks

hacked up some 3" civic intake that had the correct bend in it.

in other words, yes i just made it.

i sold the car on the 13th of january. not much more than a month or two after it was running. i dont have time to drive it and i probably wont much in the future. it was painful to see it sitting in my driveway. the cars gone, but the experience of building it is still with me!
