Browsing Yahoo auctions Japan I came across this S14 rear subframe from a Q's and I noticed it has a very non R200 or R230 looking differential. BMW style side flanges which hold the bearings...

This isn't the R180 is it ?

or here's the pics:

Further browsing reveals that it really is a R180:

Mind if I thread jack, since it seems like you answered your own question?

Is it possible that this is a Kaaz 2 way? It doesn't have the pinion showing in the hole, just 4 spider gears. Looks like a VLSD to me, but I want another opinion.

It's supposed to be the 8 disc model, part number DAN 2640.

Here's a comparison shot of a VLSD:

My Kaaz looked nothing like that. It had a fully-machined case (not cast), and instead of the 4 windows on the one end, it had 8 circular holes. And it wasn't tapered down on that end either.

Also my Kaaz came with the bearings already pressed on.

So...another vote for VLSD here. Maybe the guy got a Kaaz and is trying to sell his VLSD in the KAAZ box.

DAN2640 also doesn't seem to be a valid KAAZ part number.

The part number (on the box) is right, here's the list: http://www.kaaz-sports.com/autosports/list_e1.htm

But yeah, it ain't no 2-way, as I suspected. Thanks Asad.

Hrmm, the Kaaz2.jpg pic looks like it has more machineing on the non-ring side of the case than the VLSD and it looks like the spiders would be clearly visible on the VLSD fron the side, but in Kaaz4.jpg you cane see the spiders, and it looks liek those are the pins that engage the cams on a clutch-type. They even look like the triabgle shape..

Just my observation, I though Kaaz's looked better than that too..

That's an S13 Kaaz I think, from searching google pictures.

The picture you posted is of a stock viscous unit.
The DAN part number do exist but this is not Kaaz lsd.

see those two little phillips screws holding it in?? holding the ring gear halves together? You have to loosen and remove those two screws, split the cases of the differetnail, and see what you have inside.

then you'll know, and you can get ready to beat down 'that guy'

It has the casing of the older style r160, r180, and r200. I know because i have a 510 and we use these. It looks too big to b a r160, and it looks too new for a r180. I think it is a r200 off either a datsun 280zx, nissan 200sx, or nissan 300zx 1st gen. If it is a LSD. It is a clutch type.

Um, are you referring to the first 2 pics? Because if so you're wrong -- it's obviously sitting in a rear subframe using Nissan's rear Multi-Link setup, which rules out anything pre-S13 or pre-Z32. Not to mention that the R180 WAS used on some S13's.

possible, I am saying it is the older style r200 with the different casing. The front is real long with 4 holes, not like the new r200 that is not as long. Just the casing. http://www.ratdat.com/technical/R200_swap/000_0009.jpg
I don't know waht diff it is, but it looks like a older r200. the s13 had a r180 on some?????

It looks like my friends s14 rear end suspension. I really don't know. I never heard of a r180 made in any of the newer nissans, could b. Just giving my 2 cents since noone mentioned the casing looks of the older type with the long front snout.

And I'm saying that you're wrong.

The front is real long with 4 holes, not like the new r200 that is not as long.

Um...you can't even SEE that part of the diff clearly in those pictures. Or maybe you have x-ray vision that can somehow penetrate through an image on a computer screen and see things that don't exist?

I don't know waht diff it is

If you don't know, then why post? Especially considering that the original poster already figured it out.

but it looks like a older r200.

You are on crack, sir.

the s13 had a r180 on some?????

Isn't that what I said VERY CLEARLY in my post?!? Jesus, can't you read?

It looks like my friends s14 rear end suspension.

That it does.

Just giving my 2 cents since noone mentioned the casing looks of the older type with the long front snout.

Nobody mentioned it because it doesn't look like it at all.

WOW!! Chill down ASAD. Who is on crack? I guess the front is not that long. It has the same multilink from a s14. Which s13's came with r180? I am just curious. ok? Not trying to pick a fight over a post. Haha. Just trying to learn and help people out.
