It happens to me too. But I'm not sure if it's in the engine bay or right past the dash behind the gauges.

damn, good to know I'm not the only one with this problem. I can't track it down at all.

I don't know if your cars are but if they have a mechanical speedometer cable, it may be what is making the racket.(if the noise is located in the instrument cluster) If they have electical speedo cables, then of course it wouldn't be that.

Try checking the heat shield on the exhaust manifold - it's notorious for getting loose and making all kinds of weird noises.

In my S13 I get a buzzing noise at certain RPMs from what seems to be the defrost vents on the very front of the dashboard. I haven't tried tearing the whole dash apart to find it, but I'll look for it if I'm ever doing anything up under there.

Another thing it could be is this: On the fire wall there are a few wire looms and also some rigid lines. These sometimes rattle against the fire wall. A nissan mech. gave me this info. Hopefully it helps.

Yup, that's it. I checked out my engine and there's a wire or ground that just hangs out there. I just loop it around the little pipe thingy (sorry I suck with engine thingys). I guess it just rattles when I rev high.

I have this too, but it started after I put the new exhaust on. But it's definately coming from somewhere on the dash.
