I have a s13 blacktop motor but it doesnt have the fins on the front of the head. I was told that all blacktops had fins on the front of the head and that my motor might be a redtop with a blacktop valve cover. I am a little confused becasue i have seen pics on the net of other blacktops with no fins on the head also so i dont know what to believe at this point.
can anyone confirm weather blacktops came with no fins?

I dunno. My redtop has fins. Wanna just trade valve covers and save the confusion for both of us? http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

AFAIK, late model redtops have fins (like mine) and ALL blacktops should have fins. I think you have a blacktop valvecover. But what does it matter as long as the engine has good compression etc.

What ECU do you have?

My engine is a blacktop but I had to replace the head so now it has a redtop head on it.

im guessing the head may have been replaced because there are some numbers writen in marker on the back of the head (facing the firewall) and i dont think those marks are they from the factory.

you could always look in the sparkplug hole - see if your piston says 79E or 53C
