View Full Version : sr20 running rich all the time. Normal?

I didn't have a a/f gauge before last week so I don't know if me running rich is normal. (It's so rich that it's almost to the extreme side on the rich side) Will it affect my car in a bad way? Any ideas on how to lean it out using a safc2?

Yes, SR's tend to run rich. Mine is untuned and runs very rich, sometimes I shoot a flame out the back. As far as the SAFC goes, find someone with a wideband 02 sensor and lean it out a little bit if it's too rich. Or take it to a shop and have them tune it for you. Running rich isn't "bad" for you car. It'll foul up your spark plugs faster and you might lose a little power, but it's WAY better than running lean and detonating. Good luck

What is the reading on your AF ratio? 14.7-1 is for normal cars. It is not uncommon to go as much fuel as up to 12-1. Are you running a catylitic converter? Running too rich may cause it to fail soon. The excess fuel burns in the cat and tends to melt it. Do you have a CEL light?
