View Full Version : S13 5 lug swap

I did do a very in depth search, but after searching, I have a couple of questions.

I've read 2 different sources that had 2 different ways of installing S14 fronts onto a S13.

The first one states that I will use the S14 LCA, but I would need to drill the strut hole larger since the S13 ones are 30mm, where as the S14s are 32mm.

The second is that I just need the S14 LCA ball joints pressed into the s13.

Is there a difference in doing whichever way stated above? Is there a benifit to either? Any help would greatly help me.

Thanks guys.

You can use either the s14 LCA or simply have an s14 ball joint pressed into the s13 LCA. The s14 LCAs will give you 10mm more offset IIRC.

You can search for the thread about the bolt sleeves, but my local machine shops wanted way too much money to fab them up. I just bought a drill bit from sears and drilled out the holes in my coilovers to fit the larger s14 bolts.

HAHAHA I thought you're name read spotted MANKO ....

Well if you hurry and send me a PM, i might be able to get you in touch with someone who can make drilling obsolete. Pretty much some Sleeves fabed up, seriously the only way to do it if your s13 w/ S14 SPINDLES and such. Let me know.

PS; you drill the strut part going into the Spindle not the LCA.

Hub

-S13 uses 30mm front hub bolt, S14 uses 32mm front hub bolt. Both chassis uses 36mm rear hub bolt.
-Conversion to 5 lug on S13 chassis requires S14SE/Z32nonturbo rear hubs, and either 1) JDM aftermarket front S13 5 lug hubs, or 2) S14 SE front hubs + S14 spindle + S14 ball joint w/LCA (and redrilling of strut for larger strut bolt).
-Conversion to 5 lug on S14 requires S14 SE front hubs and S14SE/Z32nonturbo rear hubs.

This is what's on the FAQ. It just mentions the S14 LCA, but nothing about using the S13 LCA with the S14 ball joints.

Anyone can chime in in regards to what the benifit of each are, besides the extra 10mm offset with the S14s?

Thanks

How about with these rims?

Nismo LM GT 4
18X8.5 25mm
18X9.5 30mm

S14 LCA would be better?

Look spotted Manko, ill give you alink that you could of easily found on your own with the search button. BUt seriously, it all depneds how much time you have and how much cash you have to burn. But since your looking into LM's (personal prefrence of my own) your already looking at 2k in wheels so... i'll make it easy on you go to sam's site and look for the attain GTO 5 lug conversion. NO LCA/spindle mod neccesary.

Seriously calm down with the Bold thing, this false sense of angst isn't seen with a good face here.

Now ill maek it even easier for you.. Just becuase i'm in a good mood that my camera phone might save me $$ on book buying this quarter.

S14 Spindle/LCA/HUB

Pro's- Cheaper, readily available, learning curve with S chassis suspension. Added negative offset.

Con's- Time consuming. Added negative offset.

GTO

Pro's- easy as hell (judging by several reviews and comments through out the years) thats all i can think of..

Con's- $$$$ enough said.

All you need to know. Seriously make this the new sticky chang bang'! (http://forums.freshalloy.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=UBB9&Number=67685588&Forum =UBB9&Words=S14%20HUB%20&Match=Entire%20Phrase&Sea rchpage=0&Limit=25&Old=allposts&Main=165407&Search =true#Post67685588)

BTW; those sleeevs are still up for grabs, seriously you want these if your going S14 spindle etc... Pm me.

Whatever way you choose, you have to use an s14 ball joint with the s14 spindle as the taper is different between s13 and s14. You can either use the s13 LCA with the pressed in s14 ball joint or use the whole s14 LCA which is longer. Either way will work.

Geeezzz guys. Really hostile on this forum.

I did search and it's not that I am a dreamer. Have the rims already, actually 2 sets, so if you are interested in a set, let me know and I can sell you a set.

As for the reason why I am asking about the S14 conversion is fairly simple. I happened to come across a wreched 98 S14 SE, and I have the complete 5 lug swap from it. The only thing I am missing is the passenger side lca. It was broke in half during the accident.

I am not too familiar with the offset problems. With the 'negative offset' from using the S14 lca, which will actually work for me better with the rims that I have (mainly the fronts)?
