Im considering getting a pair of slicks for my s14 w sr (making around 400/320).

Has anyone run slick on their modded SR? If so.......

A) What size do you reconmend?

B) Have you had problems or heard of problems with Beaking sh1t with those harder launches?

I have eibach Prokit springs and stock shocks. Im looking into getting some KYB adj in spring. Depending on cash I have.

Thanks to any who have any words of wizdom to offer. http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

i ran 24" slicks al alst year.. atleast 30-40 1/4 runs, with my best 60 time at 1.69
never had a problem, till the tech had me do a burnout on dry pavement thinkin my car was FWD. so that snapped my diff, and broke my output shaft on my tranny...

but other than that.. never had a problem.. best run was a 12.4@110..

redtop, with simple bolt ons.. looking for mid 11's this year

i have a similar suspension setup as you, kyb struts eibach springs, 300zx vlsd. I ran 22" slicks one time at the track. My best 60 was 1.448 my average was 1.706 and I loved them. burnouts were not a problem in the waterbox and the 6300rpm clutch dump didn't seem to break anything.. i was still on the stock turbo making 244whp.

I will say that at 400whp you are reaching the strength limits of the output shaft on the tranny. Not if you are just cruising around and goosing it once in a while but if you are drag racing with bonecrushing launches it will snap at some point. I'm talking about 5500+ rpm clutch dumps.

I've got my eye on a set of 22x8x15 MT slicks. I am probably putting down about 275whp. I hope my SpecII clutch can take it.

don't run those unless you want your ecu to "think" that you are hitting your speed limiter when you aren't. The size in the tire effects the gear ratio pretty bad. those are the same ones I was running. i would opt for a 24" slick if I could find one.

yea it does
i wast running some honda buddies 205-45-16 drag radials way back and was crossing the line at 113-115 mph but i was only traping 106 http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif, but i never hit the speed limiter thouh

With a 400rwhp car, i would be looking for something around 26" in tire height. Esp. with the 4.36 in the rear of mine. Hopefully i will have a set of 255/50/16 MT ET Street Radials in the next couple of weeks to use at an upcoming event in GA.

BlueBomber, I have a ROM tune so I'm OK. http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/cool.gif Plus with my j30 3.9fd, I'm shifting into 4th right before crossing the 1320' so I'm actually looking forward to the lower effective fd that the 22" tire will give me. They are used ($90 w/wheels) and are just to get me by for a while.

When I upgrade my turbo/gears (can't find a damn R32 diff anywhere) I'll probably go with a 24"-26" tire.

my buddy used to go to that meet with his 91 TT. I may go if the car is done.

Not sure why everyone is running such small slicks. I ran 26x10 slicks with stock turbo on my SR and ran 12.5 at an elevation of 4000' which by standard air density conversions would put me right near the 11's. With the power you have you should look into at least 26" slicks maybe even 28".

As far as breaking things goes the first thing to worry about is the tranny.

i am looking into 26-29" slicks with a welded stock diff. should be fun. 22" is awfully small dave.

i cant really see a need for anything taller than 26". The cars arent making enough tq to really need anything more. Ive seen too many mustangs etc making far more power hooking on far less tire. I know thats a big generalization, but huge tire height shouldnt be a bandaid for bad set-up.

Im not actually sure how much more than a 26x10.5 you could even fit back there anyway.

Wow....My thread made a comeback.

So you guys are saying maybe 26" slick on 15 in rim.......Maybe 8" wide rim????

Yeah, with your power and slicks... your transmission will go bye-bye pretty quick.

A little less traction can mean a lot more life out of your drivetrain.
