Does anyone know the dollar amount of goods one can bring back to the united states without getting taxed? someone once told me its 10k, but its hard to believe they would carry something like that on a commercial jet liner.

If I remember correctly, from Europe it was 8K and you have to claim anything over $200? As for bumping up on that limit, it's pretty easy with jewelry. Not everyone tries to bring home wheels in their carryon... http://www.freshalloy.com/

I think he would have to check that baggage at the ticketing counter http://www.freshalloy.com/

damn, if you were walking through with a whole engine under your arm (you going to have the tranny still strapped to that thing?) it'd be pretty damn impressive. the transmission alone weighs like 100 lbs.

When i came back from HK (3 different trips) i THINK it was $400? i dont remember. it doesnt matter really. customs never searched my stuff or gave me a hassle. As long as you dont have shifty bloodshot eyes, you shouldnt worry. just dont be walking thru with a bumper under your arm. i would declare whatever you brng. if you bring headlights, declare it. better then having customs open your bag and see your headlights and its not declared.

good luck
