One of the things you must experience is the surround system that new M has available. In addition to the standard in-dash CD system, there is a DVD player in the console to play DVD-Audios.

Today I purchased a few and turned the system on and the sound is absolutely amazing. It sounds as though you are in a concert hall. I believe even the audiophiles will agree that this system, even though it is a Bose, will exceed expectations.

A little side not to this DVD-A player is that it will also play a movie on the nav screen when the emergency brake is on. I am sure someone will figure out how to bypass that little lockout.

Sounds good (no pun intended)!! Do the cars in dealer showrooms usually have power hooked to them to check them out?? I have noticed that some dealers have little power inverters or something hooked into them....hopefully mine will to see if it is worth the extra money!

The car I drove had the DVD in the console, is this part of a package, or do you have to get the DVD option for the rear passengers ?

It comes with the Journey Package. This package includes the Bose 5.1 surround sound and requires the DVD player. You do not get the rear screen, only the DVD player for the DVD-Audio.

The Studio Surround comes with the Tech. Pkg., not the Journey. The Journey has an 8 speaker bose. The Tech has the 14 speaker studio surround. Yes it has alot of bass, I was listening to Outkast "I like the way you move" today. No distortion at all and the very low bass in that song is very clear. This stereo bumps.

People dis Bose car stereos, but it's funny you say that- I have that song in my FX, and it's very clear. They did a good job in the FX, too- proving that Bose can do it properly after all.

Sorry, I misspoke. It comes with Tech and Premium Pkg both. To get the full effect of the system you have to use the DVD audio disc. A normal CD or FM radio does not produce the same quality of sound.

Did just that today. Heard the test disc that Infiniti/Bose provided, and it is an amazing sound. I also, brought a DVD of Fleetwood Mac, The Dance and played it, and it sounds fantastic also, as well as watching the DVD on the Nav screen, too cool.....
Now if the trunk were a little bigger <G>

The trunk is not too much smaller than the Audi A-6, as long as you have to temporary spare. It is 14.9 cu. ft.

Magazines have been quoting 11+ cu feet and that is WITH full spare. I'll take the temp one thanks!

I'll take the temp too. I looked at one yesterday that had the temp spare. The trunk is not really deep front to back, but it is pretty tall. This makes it appear smaller than it is. I think it is a good size.

The M is the only car in this class that offers three levels of sound:

1) Base: 160w 6 speaker
2) Journey: 230w 8 speaker
3) Tech: 5.1 Surround 14 speaker

I know that all the hoopla is with the 5.1 system, but anyone hear the first 2 systems? More M's with the first 2 systems will be sold than M's with the 5.1 system.

Not using what mag says, had them side by side today and the configuration of the Infiniti is way to blocky <has two big humps on both sides> whereas the Audi goes straight back.

The 5.1 system has a 10" subwoofer so I'm guessing yes http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm taking one for a spin today. Bass report to follow. http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I haven't heard the base system but I've heard the 8 speaker Bose. It sounds good but I heard it after the studio surround so it didn't impress me.

Nissan seems to always go the extra mile with the stereos. There's been a lot of praise for the Sentra SER/Frontier Rocksford Fosgate systems, same goes for the Altima's & Q45's Bose system.
Heck, the Bose in my 98 Max sounds pretty good for a stock system. I can't wait to hear the M's 5.1 system myself

As a person who has owned three cars with BOSE stereos and has a lot of experiece with audiophile quality speakers (which BOSE are not, of course) I can say that whatever your expectations are of this system, those expectations will pale in comparison to the system's true abilities. You absolutely have to hear the DVD demo disc to believe what this car is capable of doing. It's true 5.1 digital surround and it's almost impossible to tell which speaker is making which sound, it's that transparent.

Nuff said, go listen for yourself http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

One note of caution... the demo discs ALWAYS sound better than almost anything you can buy in 5.1 Surround. I owned an '04 TL and now have an '05 RL, and each came with its own 5.1 Surround demo disc that blew me away. However, when I went to purchase DVD-A's by various artists they weren't quite as "amazing" as the demos. The car manufacturers pick the absolute best tracks off each DVD-A to showcase the 5.1 Surround systems.

With that said, the sound is still much better than 2-Channel audio, and I'm sure the M sound system is outstanding.

You're absolutely right. Demo discs always sound better. I've noticed demo discs almost always have Jazz on them, or some other type of music that doesn't challenge the speakers.

If you really want to know the qualiy of a system you have to take your favorite disc in and compare it with how your used to heaing it, preferably on a nice home system.

I sat in a surround-equipped M45 yesterday. I didn't get a chance to test the demo disk, but I brought along Porcupine Tree's In Absentia (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00016POFE/) DTS DVD. It sounded superb on the surround system. I only played "Trains," but the guitars and atmospheric effects were split up really nicely between the channels. The system did a great job with the speakers on the seat-back.

I am much more impressed with this Bose system than I expected to be. I'll definitely put this thing through a more thorough test when I get one of my own. http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
