Can you use rearview cam with car going forward?

It's activated by putting the car in Reverse, so without mods, the answer is "no".

That sux. It might be fun and useful to see what's happening behind you when you drive.

I thought maybe you wanted to see where you've been. http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif

It shouldn't be a hard mod to pull off. Just locate the switch wire from the Reverse switch and tap into it. Then maybe install another switch so you could activate it when you wanted to. Of course, there's always the rearview mirror ...

The rear camera has a bit of a fisheye view and is angled down. The range is maybe about 15 feet, so I'm not sure how much use you would get from it. It is no substitute for the rearview mirror. I suppose you could use it to see just how close a tailgater is to you and possibly nab their license plate #. Come to think of it, that could be pretty handy. It would be cool if you could take snapshots or short video clips with it. Might be good to have this for a front camera too. I could start my own road rage web site. I swear I see at least 2 or 3 road rage incidents a day during my commute.

I can do this on the Q45. There is a secret menu that enabled a ton of stuff. You should be able to do it on the M if you can find the menu.

Hmm. Don't think that the same trick that works on the Q45 to bring up the diagnostics menu works with the M. Anybody figure out how it works in the M?

I'm POSITIVE there is a diag menu. Finding it is the trick. Maybe a dealer could share.
