i watched some of that too, not a bad program. it was put on by the american film institute, star trek was a TV show first, then a movie, and honestly not that good. that's probably why AFI didn't give it any mention.

Scarface should have been higher on the list.

Also, what happened to Yoda. "Do or do not. There is no try." I think that's the quote anyway.

In Aliens when Ripley is fighting the Queen Alien in the 'robot suit' ....

'Get away from her you b1tch!'

I saw this in two movie theaters the week it opened and in each one the large audience went absolutely bananas when Ripley called the monster out. And I felt the same way - you wanted to run out there with Ripley and start flailing away at that evil creature with giant robot claws. In several decades of watching movies I have never ever seen an audience respond to a film emotionally like that - only in Jaws and in the first Star Wars film were there reactions that were even close.

Also from Aliens .....

'We're on an express elevator to he11! Going DOWN!'

Bill Paxson's character was great in that movie - he went from sneering tough guy to a wierded-out semi-coward but he did go down fighting.

And from one of the greatest films of all time - 'Blade Runner' ....

'I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.'

But who hasn't said "Live long and prosper" at one time or another. Good or not, Star Trek is as much a part of American culture as Gone with the Wind. It was certainly better than some of the lines listed IMO.

I liked Pulp Fiction dialogue.
"I wanna go home, I gotta go pee..."
"******n Jimmie, this is some serious gourmet [censored]."
"You're gettin' ready to blow? I'm a mushroom-cloud-layin' [censored] [censored]! Every time my fingers touch brain I'm "SUPERFLY T.N.T," I'm the "GUNS OF NAVARONE." I'm what Jimmie Walker usta talk about. In fact, what the [censored] am I doin' in the back? You're the [censored] should be on brain detail. We're tradin'. Aliens my fav movie.
I bought the special edition dvd. Pretty crazy extra stuff.
I was going to upload the audio commentary of the actors of the film when my computer is up. Too bad they didn't do it for the whole movie. Cameron keeps saying the same stuff that I already heard from the making of Aliens.
His wife said power loader scene made the industry diehards at the opening go nuts.

Btw, both 'Aliens' and 'Blade Runner' were directed by Ridley Scott. When people talk about the all-time greatest directors they don't mention him too much - but they should.

Other quotes from Aliens:

[the drop-ship crashes]
Hudson: Well that's great, that's just fvckin' great man. Now what the fvck are we supposed to do? We're in some real pretty sh1t now man... That's it man, game over man, game over! What the fvck are we gonna do now? What are we gonna do?
Burke: Maybe we could build a fire, sing a couple of songs, huh? Why don't we try that?

The way Hudson says 'Game over. Game over!' with his voice breaking is just great.

And from a pretty funny movie 'Flirting With Disaster':

Tina: I guess it's just one of those ex-felon, pro-acid kind of non-smoking homes.

If you need a laugh I recommend renting 'Flirting With Disaster' - it has a lot of great scenes and funny lines. The ATF agent who starts freaking out on an acid trip had me laughing so hard I cried. 'YOU CAN'T CATCH THE WIND!' http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Here's a link to the list of all 400 nominated quotes on the American Film Institute website. It's a PDF that includes source info so it's several pages long: AFI 400 nominated movie quotes (http://www.afi.com/Docs/tvevents/pdf/quotes400.pdf)

Here are a few I might have included if I had a vote:

"We're on a mission from God." -- The Blues Brothers

"I bet you can squeal like a pig." -- Deliverance

"Leave the gun. Take the cannolis." -- The Godfather

"Funny like I'm a clown? I amuse you?" -- Goodfellas

"It's good to be the king!" -- History of the World: Part 1

"Wax-on, wax off." -- The Karate Kid

And, the immortal "Yippie-ki-yay, motherf***er*" -- Die Hard

Amazingly, "Live long and prosper" isn't even in the list of 400, nor is any line from any Star Trek film.

I also thought they might have worked in a "Let's get out of here!" since the line supposedly appears in about 85% of all movies.

I dunno, I don't think the end of Blade Runner had any memorable quotes. The earlier part of the movie did maybe.

+1 for Pulp Fiction, my all time favorite.
"Knock it off Jules, I'm not here to talk about the coffee, When Bonnie goes to the store she buys s*it, I buy the gormet expensive s*it because I like to taste my coffee when I drink it. "

and

"What country you from?... What? They speak english in what?..What?.. English M.F., do you speak it?"

MR. PINK
Why am I Mr. Pink?

JOE
Because you're a faggot, all right?

(Mr Brown laughs, Mr Blonde smiles)
MR. PINK
Why can't we pick our own colors?

JOE
No way, no way. Tried it once, it doesn't work. You get four guys all fighting over who's gonna be Mr. Black. But they don't know each other, so nobody wants to back down. No way, I pick. You're Mr. Pink. Be thankful you're not Mr. Yellow.

MR. BROWN
Yeah, but Mr. Brown, that's a little too close to Mr. [censored].

MR. PINK
Mr. Pink sounds like Mr. [censored]. How about if i'm Mr. Purple? That sounds good to me. I'll be Mr. Purple.

JOE
You're not Mr. Purple. Some guy on some other job is Mr. Purple. You're Mr. Pink.

MR. WHITE
Who cares what your name is?

MR. PINK
Yeah, that's easy for you to say. You're Mr. White. You have a cool sounding name. All right look, if it's no big deal to be Mr. Pink, you wanna trade?

JOE
Hey, nobody's trading with anybody. This ain't a ******n [censored] city council meeting, you know. Now listen up, Mr. Pink. There's two ways you can go on this job-- my way or the highway. Now what's it going to be, Mr. Pink?

Thank you! Aliens is my favorite movie of all time. I still watch it, 20 years later, and it still puts me on the edge of my seat. I can't even count how many times I've seen it.
What about
