240 will win due to the fact that it's a nissan! http://www.freshalloy.com/ The 240sx should beat the 2.5rs due to the terrian advantge Awd requires more power to power all 4 wheels. The only thing I don't know about is that the 2.5rs is H4. I don't know if that's good or bad. I like the way the 91-93 coupe 240 looks over the subaru. -240GT-R

I don't think these two cars are in the same car class. Don't they race in different brackets and entirely different types of races in Japan too?

Personally, I love my 240sx and I love Nissan, but I think the wrx kills the silvia in almost every category, while the 2.5 rs kills the 240sx in almost every category. AWD makes a very big difference. Stock rs run somewhere in the low 15's while stock 240sx' are suppose to run in the low 16. At my local track I've seen bone stock s13's pull 15.5 while the stock rs pulled 14.4 ...

AWD makes the car grip a lot better and pull out of the turns a lot faster. If you ever drive around the city and hit a pothole, the rs, even lowered, can clear it pretty easily.

But hey, I drive my sleek 240sx. If you like flying bricks with fish eyeballs, the wrx is for you.

This is an OLD question and to be honest, not a practicle comparison.
With a 240sx setup duplicating the Subi RS, the 240sx will win(using same driver and same time in vehicle) in a dry Auto-x.
Given wet turf, the Subi will run quicker(after all, it's AWD). The 240sx is faster rolling acceleration. They equal(almost) in straightline run from stop.
There is Plenty of examples and posts in the Archives. Go look and ye shall find.

Subaru transmissions are somewhat weak except for the STi 6 speed WRX trans... however to put one in a non STi WRX or any other Imprezza takes a TON of other parts which easily goes over $10K. In Japan most heavily mod'ed Imprezzas run dog boxes. My friends WRX is a great car, puts down ~240 at the wheels with basic upgrades with stock fuel and stock turbo and pulls 1.7-1.9 60 foot times with street tires. Not very familiar with the 2.5 RS's but I do know that they can be turbocharged somewhat easily...at least as easy as a KA motor is for us.

14.4 stock 2.5 rs at sears point.... nope I don't get high.

Wow, who would want a WRX when they can get a 14.4 RS?

I kinda think thats a little too low. I've seen 3 stock WRX's at the track hitting in the range of 14.1-14.5. Its hard to believe that they all suck at driving (I know one of them, he also owns a 12 sec B20 CRX). Must have been a Limited Edition Ultra 2.5 RS. http://www.freshalloy.com/

Have a good one.

Yea, no kidding my eyeballs nearly popped off. They just about popped off when I saw a crusty, full interior, no mods at all s13 coupe pull a 15.6. Must have been very nice conditions that day.

SCC 2.5rs Quarter mile and 0-60 (http://www.imprezawrx.org/literature/SCC/9908/article.html)
Is this what you were referring to? This is with a turbo..... You are halucinating...too many hours at work? http://www.freshalloy.com/

Edit: I believe you about the 240, due to possibly being a light coupe with abnormal breathing abilities or very good driver. I have heard of others on Amarok list getting mid 15's bone stock on a 240... 14.4 stock on a 2.5rs and then SCC adding a turbo, exhaust, etc. and pulling off a what?...14.4
I don't believe it.

Yea that's odd. I know for a fact it was a 2.5 rs and it really looked and sounded like stock. I didn't hear a turbo, wastegate, or blow off valve, and I didn't see an intercooler, but seeing as I did not get a chance to look under the hood, I could be very wrong about it being stock.

Well, my point about the fast rs was just that it is at least slightly faster than the 240sx down the 1/4 mile.

I'm sorry..but the rs u are talking about must be some what modified to hit that time. A stock 2000 impreza, which my girl friend and 2 of my friends got, does 16.3 in the 1/4 mile...and as a matter of fact if u compare it to a DOHC KA...the KA is actually 2 tenths of a second faster. Like I 've have said on the other post...I raced my friends 3 times and won twice. Both cars stock!!

Not if he considers BONE STOCK as completely gutted.
I could easily break the 15sec mark if I took out the interior, radio, all elect motors.
If I wanted further, I could crossdrill pieces of the supports to lighten while minimizing protection drop and hit the mid 14's.
Still running an NA KA, just not SHOWROOM stock.

I own a 91 240sx. And I got smoked by a 2.5RS. We both had intakes and exhaust thats about it. He didn't beat me that bad though, My front end was right beside his side view mirror. I was expecting him to beat me by more than that since his car is AWD. My worst race was when I got smoked really bad by another 240sx. Except his was a coupe.

16.3 is pretty slow for an rs I think. I remember reading the 1/4 mile time in some magazine and it was in the 15's while the s14 240sx is listed as 16.1. Maybe someone should go check it out.

According to their numbers:
RS: 0-30mph 2.4 SI: 0-30 3.3
RS0-60mph 7.7 SI: 0-60 7.9
RS30-50mph 3.1 SI: 30-50 2.8
RS50-70mph 4.7 SI: 50-70 4.3
quarter mile
RS: 15.7sec@85.7mph
SI: 15.9sec@88.5
Just wanted to let you guys know the numbers from SCC.

for the record, my friend and i had a little highway fun (he has 2002 WRX) and S13 w/SR20DET. It was nice, i was impressed with the impreza's ability to keep up for the duration of the 40-60 acceleration tests (actually more like 45-75+) but you get the picture. WRX is not slow, off the line i'm sure i'd have problems until i can get traction.

The 16.3 time for the RS is actually what I got from Road and track or car and driver....one of those.

from my experience 240 and rs is completly different. but what i can tell you is that wrx has a good handling too. yup. i had to decide between subie and 240 too. i couldnt find 97+ 240 so wrx was my second choice, plus my beloved 93 240 was dying on me.. i still miss RWD!! http://www.freshalloy.com/ i have not yet drove hard in wrx but i can feel that this car can cut some coners at good speed.

My friend visits some impreza board that he says is very civil like the freshalloy 240sx forum. If your doing research about it, you should look into that board as well.

They are civil on the imprezza board (i-club.com) however there are a lot of anti-racing freeks over there. You post a message about how you put on an intake and you can feel it helps the low end power a little and all of a sudden you have people yelling that your going to kill people by street racing. My friend with a WRX reads it and posts every so often.

They only ever harp on street racing when somebody specifically posts about it. Anyway, what's wrong with that, street racing is kinda stupid since you put others in danger.

Yup, I cut out an article a few weeks ago about some kid who was street racing in Dona Vista Florida going over 100 mph. He rearended another car on the highway and killed both people in the car he hit. It turned out the driver of the other car was his own mother!!! His mother was taking an ederly friend on a drive to look at Christmas lights ... looks like the kid wasn't gonna have any happy holidays this year, or for many years to come.

BTW, I'd prefer the 240sx 'cause it's more fun, especially in the snow like we had last night. I like RWD. AWD is cool and all, but it's just not for me. But it seems the Subbie cleans up pretty well in STS at nationals, while the 240sx doesn't seem to do as well on the whole ... from results I've seen.

Dan
