Identical? How can you say that when right on the srwap.com page it explains the differences... http://www.srswap.com/faq_specs.htm

S13 Red top: 205hp
S14 Black top: 220hp, slightly different turbo, Variable Valve Timing
S15 Black top: 250hp, bigger turbo, VVT

There are S13 red-tops (Silvia & 180SX) and S13 black-tops (96+ 180SX). Those 2 are identical except for age.

S14 is also black-top, with a slant at the back of the valve cover.

The term "blacktop" is usually used to refer to S13 motors with a black valve cover (which was used on the 94-98 180sx). S14 motors and S15 motors are just called S14 and S15 motors; calling it an "S14 blacktop" or "S15 blacktop" would be redundant since they're all black.

Read that page a little more carefully and you'll see it has the blacktop in the same section as the redtop).

93+ aint it? and i don't think they are exactly the same. i have heard there are different rod bearings and a couple other little details that were improved. nothing regarding power though.

The SR20DET black is identical up until the s15 silvia in 99. I don't think the black s13 engine is any different from a red top engine just for that matter.
If bearings were stronger or rods were improved, i am sure it would have ended up in the 97, 98 s14 silvia (at least).
Obviously we don't have any proof of that, but i would rather speculate of no change then say , well i heard that somebody tock the engine apart and got some new info. Most of the time that kind of info is not true.

Thanks

The redtops and teh blacktops are identical. The blacktop is a little newer production.

Let me know if you are interested.
We have a couple we have to move ASAP.

easy cuz they are cheaper for us americans to get and therfore more money left over to build it up http://www.freshalloy.com/ I personally will still go black top just cuz the red would clash with my car

Has anyone looked at a stock injector from a redtop motor? I know Nissan changed injectors from a 1 hole to a 4 hole design somewhere along the line. I would bet that redtops have the older 1 hole style, and I know that blacktops have the newer 4 hole style.

Checked.

I have a used set of injectors from red top, it's 4 holes for mine.

Okay someone check again. http://www.freshalloy.com/
