Hey, I was wondering if anyone knew what it took to get a ka or sr into a s13 chasis? Is the orgional s12 engine a front sump too? help is greatly appreciated

I was reading some corums in club s12, and it seems like a ka24de bolts right into the 200sx crossmember, but the gearbox form the ca20e is used. I am not 100%. Help

Any reason you wouldn't just want to do the VG30E since some came from the factory with them?

Well, my reason for asking is not because I have a s12, and if I did I would prefer a 4cyl rather than a 160hp 6 cyl. The reason I am wondering is because I am talking to this guy in the middle of the s12 crossmember on a datsun 510. If it can be done, there goes a rack and pinino upgrade and a crossmember to fit a ka24de or a sr20det with stock turbo manifold. That is my reason for asking. Also, i was reading about this, and a 200sx would allow those engiens to fit with their origional mounts, that are a lot better than most peoples modified 510 crossmembers usuing stock 510 mounts.

Oh yeah, I was doing soem research, and according to some people on the s12forum, the crossmember for the vg30e is differnt from the starndard s12 4cyl. So the 6 cyl swap would need mods in a s12 chasis unless u get a v6 crossmember

Are you really looking to drop rack & pinion into a 510 and drop in a KA24 at the same time? If so, the 240Z crossmember bolts directly into the 510 and obviously has the rack & pinion on it (this causes other issues however, namely the the T/C rods). If you're talking about using the KA24 mounts intsead of the 510 ones when dropping in a KA24 then you just modify the x-member to accept the KA24 engine mounts. My 510 has the factory VG30 gel-filled engine mounts as well as the 240Z crossmember.

Ahh, thanks for the info. That doesn't sound to bad, the only problem is that I have not seen a 240z in around half a year. How hard was the rack and pinion to get to fit in a 510? What about your issues with the T/c rods? Was it jsut the castor was way off or was it another problem? Thanks for your input

HEY! No wonder your name sounded familiar. Haha. Nice car. gunna check out your pages see if i find any answers in there.

Hey, I found your writup on your steering conversion http://www.datsuns.com/Tech/510_rack_conversion.htm
Thanks for the input.
Sorry, but this is a little off subject. So if you owned a 240z, and wanted to throw in a ka24de, would the engine sit far up, or nice and snug near the firewall? THanks

Yeah, I haven't see na 240z in the junkyard in a while. The 280zx is actually starting to get rare too. I gotta get my parts off these cars before they are rare. I am actually seeing more 1994+ stuff.
