Ok...i'm selling my old civic hatchback and getting $7k...so that's my budget. My question is...how much could i get a 95 240sx for? How much would an sr20det cost? Or should I go for the older 240 model?

you can find an S14 for less than 7K no problem, putting an SR in it as well will probably cause you to go over your budget. It can be done if you find an S14 with a blown motor, and do the motor yourself. SR will cost you anywhere from $1800-3500 depending on who you get it from. An S13 is fine, it just depends on what you find really.

personally if i had $7k, id buy an s13 for about $1,000, dont worry about miles really, as long as it looks good, spend about 2-2.5k on a sr swap, more if your having it done by someone else, then have money left over to tune suspension, upgrade the sr, and get a nice body kit. i love the s14s, but performance comes first, and there are some pretty awesome body kits out there for the s13, and personally i like the style of the s13 more...
just my oppinion though

thats a good idea...i believe there was somebody who put a post on this site who worked on an s13 fastback. his combo was great. he found the body which cost him $800 and towed the car to the install shop where and dropped the sr in it. finding a 240sx body with blown engine is hard. i have looked at least in so cal cause i need a non-deployed airbag dash for my 95. it is very hard. just gotta keep looking

Neko Punch posted his link a while back

(I don't think he'll mind me re-posting it)

It's a fantastic documentation of the rebirth of a S13. Check it out.
