Anyone willing to unscrew theres and take a picture as to what it looks like. I bought two to replace mine (rattles like a ***** first blip of gas). I took mine out and it looks like this compared to an s14:

Here's a picture of the other I bought from japan

Problem is, mine doesn't have that nub on the end and I'm just making sure what the solenoids are supposed to look like. So if anyone can unscrew theres and take a picture i'd love to see it.

Ok, The one you got from Japan is S14 Zenki solenoid(better one) but you can use it in your S15 SR without a problem, in Japan when people have rattling problem with S14 Kouki SR or S15 SR solenoids they swap it with Zenki solenoid. btw: S14 kouki and S15 uses same design solenoid.
S14 kouki and S15 have VVT rattle problem more than zenki SR because late model SR dosen't have solanoid with ball bearing and spring at the bottom like zenki solenoid. Hope this help...

my friend at the shop had both and we had no idea why they were different. interesting to find out s14 is better. he has two different s14 motors and one had the s15 type in it. my vtc makes no noise but we'll take a look what type is there when the cams go in

i tried the s14 one in the above picture (4218) and it rattles like a valve tick, i think it's worn. the s15 one sounds like a machine gun at startup. i'm still waiting for the one from japan to be shipped. i've read a few things saying it's not only the solenoid that rattles but also the spring/piston in the cam gear housing...who knows. all i know is the rattle is annoying, but at least it's not damaging anything.

Sorry to bring back this post but i was wondering if the origional poster would be willing to sell one of his solenoid or if anyone knew where i could purchase one becuase my Zenki S14 has gone bad.

I can get you one but it may take close to three weeks and cost about 50 bucks for used one. I just sold some so I'm completely out. The early S14 solenoid works the best and doesn't rattle at all.
