View Full Version : Exhaust manifold heat shield - can I remove it?

The heat shield over the headers has rusted a bit around the bolts, and is rattling a bit too much to my taste. Can I just get rid of the damn thing? I'm using just a K&N cone filter, no CAI - will the air be too hot around the intake?

it'll be hotter but it shouldnt damage anything. i have hotshot headers with no heat shield or wrap (although i think they're coated) and they make quite a bit of heat. the stock manifold might not let out as much heat.

Thank mwreck!

Anyone else can confirm this?

I removed mine a long time ago...along with the heat shields on the secondary pipes (because they were rattling). No problems so far.

a *cool* thing to do would be to heat rap the manifold once you have the heatshield off. It will keep the heat in much better than the stock heat shield, and lower your ambient engine bay temps.
