Actually, there are reports that the EX concept is going to be a sedan. It seems likely to be a replacement for the Q.

Without getting you into any trouble.... If you can answer this question, I'm sure some of us would like to know, is it a "normal" SUV with 4 doors (baby FX) or is it more of a new fangled 2-door "crossover coupe" type thing?

Are people acting dense on purpose here? Its not a Q replacement. Its a crossover concept. Even Infiniti said its a crossover concept, and now its name is EX. EX is a trimlevel? Well so is SL for Altima, but Mercedes didn't change the name of its SL convertible?

CROSSOVER
Infiniti today released a "gesture" of a new luxury crossover concept that will debut at the New York International Auto Show in April. The production version of this luxury crossover concept will hit Infiniti showrooms by the end of this year.

Accord EX is a trim-line of the Accord not a model name. Also with Lexus it's the ES not EX. Q doesn't fit because it's supposed to be a "crossover concept" (read SUV) as had been previously announced not a "sedan" as some have been mistakenly reporting. I'm sure we will see a new "Q" sedan within the next year or 2, but this EX isn't it. I'm banking on the production version to be called the EX 35 since that's the name Nissan has trademarked in the U.S.

I think Infiniti shot themselves in the foot by placing the FX so low in the alphabet, name wise, leaving them with little choice for this new crossover under it. I think they should have went with BX. BX sounds like it would fit more with the role of the car. EX just sounds boring and is associated more with luxury more than sport, BUT we'll get used to it!

Although some controversy continues over the engine size. Some thought it would receive the 3.7 of the 08 coupe. Not so, 3.5 will be the only powertrain available in North America.

I'd assume that it'll get the 3.5L V6 found in the new G35, though there are rumors that the new G35 will get the 3.7L V6 in 08 or 09 model year, which could mean that Nissan can just give the EX the 3.7L V6 from the get go, or maybe Nissan will try to differentiate the FX further from EX by giving the FX the bigger 3.7L V6, along with the V8.

Nissan does own the trademark for FX37 so I wouldn't be surprised to see the next FX get the 3.7 engine.

The 2008 will be the same vehicle as the 2007. Look for a whole new FX in 2009! Possibly FX37.

March 28th can't get here soon enough lol. I wonder if we'll see any early leaks of these photos this weekend?

I doubt it. Infiniti is pretty tight lipped. I'm not sure how quick the car mags will post them on their sites on or after 3/28. I'll post them here within a few days after the 28th if they are lagging on posting them. Will be a sweet looking ride....

Well now that the G37 pics have leaked out all over the place, I doubt we'll be seein EX pics before the 28th. The G37 was a highly anticipated car, this EX not so much. Personally I'm in the market for a Murano/FX style crossover and not a 2-door coupe, so the EX is more important to me then the G.

The G37 head on looks nice...but from all other angles...I think they could have done a better job. The new crossover will have a lot of the bold styling cues from the FX. Which I love. So i think it will look pretty sweet, providing you like the FX. We'll find out in about a week from now....

I think Infiniti is going in the wrong direction with the next model. We need an SUV between the FX and QX. A rebadged Patrol would be perfect. If you look at interior pics of the newest Patrol model the interior is very luxurious and it has seating for 7. After all the LX is built on the Landcruiser platform. A smaller than FX SUV should have a VG25 coupled to a hybrid system of some sort.

Technically, we really don't know where Infiniti is going with this model. All we have is rumors to go by. IMO if the rumors of the EX being a smaller then FX SUV built to compete with RDX and X3 are true, then that's a good direction to go. I for-see the market in general shifting towards smaller crossovers such as those and not larger ones such as you describe. I do agree with you that if it goes in the smaller direction it should get the 2.5 VQ (VQ not VG they don't make those anymore) V-6 as a base engine as well as the trusty 3.5 VQ we all know and love. As far as a hybrid system goes, I doubt we'll see a hybrid Infiniti until Nissan finishes developing it's own hybrid system and doesn't have to rely on borrowed Toyota tech.

I agree with DA in terms of the direction they will be going with a smaller crossover. I assume the new crossover will be at least 500 lbs lighter than the FX if everything I hear is true.... So with a V6, it should have a lot of pep. I'm sure it will handle and brake very well too. I hope they offer a sport package.

Are the Infiniti concepts usually very close to the actual production vehicle, like Honda/Acura are?

NissLover

Yeah they are. Take for example the G-Coupe Concept vs. G37, M-Concept vs. M35/45, and FX-Concept vs. FX35/45. They all only have/had minor changes between concept and production. So what we will see is probably extremely close to production especially being that it will be in production by the end of this year.

The FX concept was considerably different than the production version if I recall correctly, and expect the EX to be based somewhat on the Triant, as everyone is suggesting.

Well there were two FX concepts. The first one was

Looks like a MURANO/G35/FX combo. On drugs. The EX is the new Infiniti red-headed step child. No originality - what a shame. As an FX owner, I'm thoroughly disappointed.
