I noticed this in the nissansportmag article on the new EX:

Nissan only just released news that it has suspended development of its heavy-duty pickup--indeed they may scrap the program entirely--and it appears they may even abandon some of their body-on-frame trucks like the Pathfinder, Armada, and Infiniti QX56. The reason? The rising popularity and attractive fuel economy of crossovers. And the company’s latest salvo is sure to shake up the market of SUV/car blends: the Infiniti EX.

Since the QX56 isn't a hot seller, maybe the FX will grow in size to replace it, right?

Actually the QX is still a decent seller for Infiniti, around 1k a month. And no it's not going anywhere. It just won't use a body-on-frame platform like it is now and will be based off the upcoming Nissan Patrol rather than the Titan/Armada.

FX will have to grow really big to replace it. The QX is freaking huge. We'll have to wait and see what they do with it. I think its selling fine, but quality is what Infiniti is worried about.

Exactly. The QX/Armada/Titan platform has been severly plagued with quality control issues which have brought down Infiniti's overall initial quality rankings so that's why I was wondering about its demise.

Truth be told, maybe it should be discontinued since it doesn't seem to offer the "driving experience" that Infiniti is striving for.

i think it will be smaller than current QX when it based on Nissan Patrol
Patrol is like a LX or Land Cruciser type vehicle
But Americans love big QX type SUV's

It is rumored that QX production is going to shift to Japan.

I think a new QX based on the Patrol would be a great large SUV to compete against the Lexus LX and Land Rover.

but its said to discontinue QX
its a nice trucks
they just need to make it look better and up the quality

QX is not going anywhere. Nissan's moving its production to Japan for the next gen and it will most likely be based on the new Patrol when it debuts.

The FX isn't getting too much bigger from what I've heard. It will remain X5 and RX competition.

I don't think it needs to go anywhere but it needs to be completely redone. I think a vehicle like the GL450 should be the target for the next QX. Some on-road and off-road capabilities with lots of room inside but not a huge behemoth on the outside. And this time lets give it some style, both inside and out.

Some shots of the Patrol. Its not as large as the QX but it has a true off-road pedigree. Give it an upgraded interior on par with the FX/QX and it will compete directly with Range Rover. I know in some off-road baja style series the Patrol is used and they put out 1800 hp on that 4.8l inline 6.

I thought the same exact thing.....Looks like a Toyota Land Cruiser or a Jeep Grand Cherokee! Although it does start to fit my need for something bigger than the FX or EX and smaller than the Queen Marry (QX56)!

They should just bring back the QX4.

I think the name QX will stay, but it just won't be based on Nissan Armada full size structure. From everything I've heard and read, it'll be more of a size of the Mecedes Benz GL, which happens to be around the same size as the Patrol. So when Nissan redesigns the Patrol, it'll come over as the new QX.

Great idea to base it off the Nissan Patrol. Toyota did a similar thing. They sell the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado around the world, but it didn't really fit into the US Toyota line-up. So they simply dressed it up and created the Lexus GX470. The Prado competes directly with the Patrol in foreign markets.
