Looks good, though really low. This kills its competition in the looks department.

If priced right this will do well for Infinti..

very close to the concept. I think it is a bit low also but maybe infiniti was looking for better performance?

PRESS RELEASE:
All new 2008 Infiniti EX coming to Europe

* EX revealed 16 August at the 2007 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance
* Innovative Coupe Crossover concept
* Standard 'ATTESA E-TS' all-wheel drive
* Powered by a 3.5-litre 290hp V6 (US specification)
* First introduction of the advanced Around View Monitor system
* To be launched progressively across Europe starting from Autumn 2008 together with the G Saloon, G Coupe and a successor to the iconic FX

ROLLE, SWITZERLAND (16.08.07): The all-new 2008 Infiniti EX coupe crossover, revealed this week at the 2007 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, will form part of a four model premium range that will be launched across Europe starting from Autumn 2008.

The EX is a new addition to the global Infiniti range. To be badged EX35 when it goes on sale in the US at the end of this year, this all-wheel drive crossover slots in below the iconic FX and offers an exceptional combination of seductive design, elegant interior and advanced technology systems. These include the world production car debut of the advanced Around View Monitor (AVM) system, which utilizes four small cameras to give the driver a "top-down view" of the outside of the vehicle while parking. The new EX35 also becomes the second Infiniti production vehicle, following the Autumn introduction in the US of the 2008 Infiniti M-series, to offer the new Lane Departure Prevention (LDP) system, and the first to feature "Scratch Shield," a special "self-healing" clearcoat paint. Launch timing of these technologies in Europe is to be confirmed.
Coupe-Inspired Exterior

Designed by the Infiniti design centre in Japan, the EX35's sculpted elegance should have a timeless appeal. Sleek lines portray speed, grace and finesse combining the look and feel of a luxury coupe with the elevated cabin of a 4x4.

The sporty proportions include a long hood, short front and rear overhangs, rearward cabin and smooth coupe-like roofline arching over the windows to the C-pillars.
"The EX35 is the perfect fusion of a luxury coupe and a sporty 4x4," said Jim Wright, Vice President Infiniti Europe.

The EX35 has a length of 4631mm and a width of 1803mm making it maneuverable in town. While a height of 1589mm gives it a more dynamic stance and a lower centre of gravity than most other 4x4s.

EX35's exterior includes many signature Infiniti touches, including a double-arch grille, large L-shaped headlights with available Bi-Xenon Adaptive Front lighting System (AFS), integrated fog lights, distinctive LED taillights and "dynamic arch" profile. Other exterior features include a high-mounted rear hatchback spoiler, chrome-finished dual exhaust pipes, an available power tilt/sliding sunroof with one-touch activation and optional roof rails and crossbars. The EX35 also features a standard puddle lamp integrated in the driver's side door mirror as part of the Hospitality Lighting Concept.
Eight exterior colors will be offered including two shades new to the model.

One of the unique features of the new EX35 is the special "Scratch Shield," a special "self-healing" clearcoat paint, which is designed to maintain its gloss-level over time. The paint repairs fine scratches, such as fingernail scratches under door handles, restoring the EX35's surface close to the original state. The process, which takes anywhere from one day to one week (depending on the surrounding temperature and the depth of the scratch), is accomplished through the use of a special highly elastic resin. This resin is combined with a conventional clearcoat to increase the paint's flexibility and strength by raising the resin density.

Elegant Interior Design

Like all Infiniti vehicles, the EX35 is conceived to offer an invigorating and engaging interior environment. And one that is both indulgent and inspiring.

The driver-focused "wave-inspired" cabin layout features an Infiniti signature "double-wave" instrument panel, easy-to-read high-contrast gauges with white-and-violet illumination and hospitality lighting with a pin LED light mounted over the center console and Infiniti-signature analog clock.

The instrument panel also features a 7-inch color display with Infiniti controller for the trip computer and additional vehicle information, including the available Infiniti Hard Disk based Navigation System with 9.3GB Music Box hard drive for music storage and playback.

Other technology systems include available Bluetooth® Hands-Free Phone System and standard Infiniti Intelligent Key with Push Button Ignition. Available technology features include RearView Camera (available separately, or as part of the Around View Monitor system), front and rear parking sensors, Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC) and Bose® Premium Audio System with 11 speakers including 2 subwoofers, 6CD in-dash changer and iPod® connectivity.

The interior is offered with cloth or leather-upholstered seating surfaces, available in four different colour concepts, reflecting Infiniti's desire to offer the customer a high level of personalisation. A special Black Lacquer trim comes standard on the center console, with optional genuine Maple wood trim for the centre

An 8-way power driver's seat with 2-way manual lumbar support is standard, along with a 4-way power passenger's seat. A driver's seat memory system is also offered, along with available heated front seats and 8-way power front passenger's seat. Also available is an unusual 60/40 split power-folding 2nd row seat (operated from the front or hatch area) making it easier to get the best out of the interior space.
"The EX35's interior is all about driving pleasure and passenger comfort," said Wright. "Like the exterior, it offers a coupe-like feel but surprising versatility – ideal for today's active lifestyles. Its design is elegant and made using beautiful materials that indulge as well as calm. "
Advanced Platform and Powertrain

Under the EX35's dramatic body is an equally advanced platform and powertrain based on the latest Infiniti performance technology. Its advanced FR-L platform provides the same high levels of handling precision and balance as it does for the Infiniti M, FX and G Coupe and Saloon.

Every 2008 US-specification Infiniti EX35 comes as standard with the fourth-generation VQ35HR 3.5-liter V6 engine (shared with the new G35 Saloon), rated at 290-plus horsepower (estimated) and 5-speed automatic transmission with manual mode, DS sport mode with Downshift Rev Matching (DRM), and Adaptive Shift Control.

The engine block features ladder frame construction, variable exhaust cam timing (eCVTCS), asymmetric piston skirts, twin knock sensors and Iridium spark plugs. Its symmetric twin ram air intake system helps reduce airflow resistance, while the dual exhaust system has been designed with equal length exhaust manifolds and reduced muffler exhaust pressure help improve engine breathing.

Both are tuned to create authoritative harmonies, helping enhance driving pleasure, an exciting engine sound and expected improvements in emissions and fuel economy (versus the previous generation VQ engine).

The fourth-generation VQ engine design also includes a long list of advanced systems found on the previous design – including a Continuously Variable Valve Timing Control System (CVTCS), a "noiseless" timing chain for quiet operation, an electronically controlled "drive-by-wire" throttle system, microfinished crank journals and cam lobes, and molybdenum coated lightweight pistons.

Every EX35 utilizes a subframe-mounted independent front double-wishbone suspension with aluminum-alloy upper and lower links, high-performance dual-flow pass shock absorbers and anti-roll bar. The rear suspension is an independent multi-link design with aluminum-alloy upper and lower links and axle housing, high-performance dual-flow pass shock absorbers and anti-roll bar.

Steering is provided by a speed-sensitive power-assisted steering system with power-assisted front and rear discs (vented front) and standard Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA).

Also standard is Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) with Traction Control System (TCS), while an advanced Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC) with Preview Braking is optionally available.

Available wheel and tire combinations include an 18-inch 8-spoke aluminum-alloy wheels with 225/55R18 tires.

EX35 features Infiniti's ATTESA E-TS (Advanced Total Traction Engineering System for All Electronic Torque Split) all-wheel drive system, which is also utilized on the 2008 M, FX and G Saloon.
The system utilizes an active torque distribution management system with an active centre clutch designed for smooth starts and better traction and maneuverability on snowy and wet roads than conventional all-wheel drive systems, plus minimal compromise of rear-wheel drive performance characteristics on dry roads.
Advanced New Technology

The EX35's advanced technology design is highlighted by one system that is the first production version available in the US and Europe: the Infiniti Around View Monitor.

It utilizes small front, side and rear-mounted cameras to project an all-around view of potential objects on every side of the vehicle – helping reduce blind spots when parking.

"Conventional mirrors, no matter how carefully you use them, just can't provide a view around the car that the Around View Monitor's four-camera system does," said Wright. "Rear bumper parking sensors help detect objects behind a car, but again they can't give the view of the space around the vehicle that the AVM does."
EX35 European specification

The information given above relates to the US market EX35. Specifications of the European version will be confirmed closer to the on sale date.

In terms of positioning, it is difficult to find any direct rivals for the EX being arguably the first of a new wave of coupe crossovers. But looking at other cars available currently, the EX might be lined up against rivals as diverse as the BMW X3 3.0si and Audi A4 3.2FSI quattro avant.
Infiniti Europe

The EX will get its first European showing at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show. The brand will be launched across Europe, city by city, starting in the autumn of 2008 – a process that will take two years. Infiniti Europe will reveal more details of its launch schedule towards the end of 2007.

Four models will be available in Europe from launch. These will include the G saloon, the G coupe, the EX as detailed above, and a successor to the iconic FX to be unveiled next year. A replacement for the M-series will join the European range early in the next decade along with the option, on the M-, EX- and FX-series, of a high performance V6 diesel.

Superior customer service will be as important to Infiniti as the product. This starts with the retail network, all of which will employ the new Infiniti Retail Design Environment Initiative (IREDI) that has a look and feel more akin to a luxury designer hotel than a car showroom, and continues with Infiniti's Total Ownership Experience (TOE) philosophy that covers all contacts the customer will have with the brand.

Said Wright: "The launch of a premium car brand in Europe is a rare and special event. Infiniti will have the simple philosophy of offering the independently minded customer a new alternative of vibrant product teamed with excellent service. The cars are all elegantly designed, comprehensively equipped and aimed at the enthusiast. But they are only half the story. Effortless ownership will be equally important as you will discover closer to the launch."

Oh wow...... this thing looks better than the G37 Coupe from the front. Love the exterior and interior design. AVM and Self-healing paint still sounds like sci-fi concept stuff. :o Way to go Infiniti.

Now I need to decide between this and the G35 sedan.

WOW! This thing is beautiful! Very close to the concept and I loved the concept when I saw it at the New York Auto Show. If this is priced right it's gonna sell like ice cream on a hot day. I WANT ONE!

THIS THING IS GOING TO FLY OFF THE LOTS! This is going to be a huge hit for Infiniti. I mean it has everything I could ever want in a car, Style, Performance(?), Luxury, and a little versatility on the side. I am still in shock that its so close to the concept. Way to go Infiniti! They are on the way to one helluva line up once the new FX comes out.

OMG I LOVE INFINITI!!!

why do they make it so hard to pick?!!! why!! man this thing look great!! the interior is the best looking in the whole line up next to the new M. I cant wait to see one in person. Its gonna suck for the competiton if they keep the price right.

Good job Infiniti!!!

Great job! For once Infiniti didn't water down the concept version to the production model. The front end is clean, aggressive and modern. So glad they got rid of the roof rails - or at least they are optional for those who want them. They should offer a different style of wheels since they look too close to the FX.

Personally, I want a performance sports-car like crossover and this seems to be it- instead of some luxo-boat. Also a plus is the lower center of gravity which should provide better handling. Can't wait to test drive one.

Gorgeous car, and it's the first Infiniti I've seen with the license plate area designed for European license plates. I'll probably replace my QX4 with one in the near future.

The license plate area on the hatch is actually wide enough to accomodate a Euro plate.

I must say that the car makes quite a statement. If the EX looks this good the FX must be absolutey killer.

AWESOME pictures, thanks so much for sharing. Am hoping to see a picture of the EX with an FX in it to, inorder to get a good perspective on size!

What is that in the back of the drivers headrest? It almost looks like it is a pull out hanger for a jacket?!? Very cool if this is the case!

Love it expecially in that last pic of all black. The only design detail that bothers me is that goofy antennae on the top. Is it that hard to make a more aesthetically pleasing antennae?

Great pics, the L shaped headlights work so much better on the EX than the G sedan and coupe, in my opinion.

Question - What's up with the driver's headrest from the back-seat perspective? Looks like an "oh sh*t handle" in the headrest??? :) Maybe something to do with whiplash protection?

On nissannews.com there is mention of "hospitality lighting with LEDs mounted over the center console." I know it says over the center console but I cannot think of anything else this could be. Perhaps there is a light under there and it is designed to not blind the driver looking in the rearview mirror. That's a stretch for an explanation. Bottom line...I have no clue. :D

Definitely looks like a spot to hang your suit jacket. Kind of tacky and restrictive to drive to work with your suit jacket on, and plenty of the headrest add-ons have been sold.

This is a gorgeous vehicle. From the creases that run from the sides of the front grille over the hood to the A-pillar to the "wave" crease that runs along the side (A5-like kind of,) curving around the back in line with the taillights.

If the inside and cargo area measures up size-wise with the X3, RDX and upcoming GLK and Q5 competitors, it should fare really well. Sadly enough, it's too small for my needs. We road trip with the kid and will probably add to the clan in the next year plus. Doesn't look like the rear cargo area is that big. Probably right in-line with others in class, just not the size I seek. Regardless, it will be just right for plenty of people.

Guaranteed to be the new DINK-mobile as well as the ride Daddy's little girl pulls up to the ritzy nightspot in for sure.

http://jalopnik.com/cars/pebble-beach-concours/big-bux-to-be-made-on-google-street-view-with-infiniti-ex35-290955.php

“This morning on the 18th fairway at Pebble Beach, Infiniti debuted the production version of their their third SUV model, the EX35, following in the footsteps of the FX-series and the Bismarck QX. While one might think the RWD-or-AWD EX is a derivative of the Murano, it's actually built on a trucked-up version of Nissan's FM platform. Probably the trickest piece of equipment (besides the headreast-mounted coathanger -- is the Around View Monitor System, known in abbreviated parlance as AVM. It offers a 360-degree view of the vehicle to ease parking in tight situations. An added bonus would seem to be the opportunity to hire oneself out to Google in his or her new EX, thus making the payments while mapping the world. The EX hits showrooms in December, press release after the jump.”

I do think this car will be a tremendous success for Infiniti. The execution and detailing here is probably the best thing they have yet done and bodes especially well for the next FX.

Also, it was just today mentioned that the Q will be back in 09. If the EX is any indication of what to expect from the reborn Q then hold onto your seats.

I love it. A great looking car. As for space, I'll wait for a test drive. From the pictures it appears to have enough. The rear is fairly deep and the rear seat leg room is enough IF the driver is my height :). Nice. But I am reserving final judgement for the test drive.

The bad thing about just looking at pics (without specs) is you don't know how far back the driver's seat was set. Since the wheelbase is only 0.2" less than the G35 sedan, I bet the interior space is comparable, and with 2" additional width (compared to the sedan), I doubt it is confining as some fear. We just have to wait for the specs (including trunk space):)

Similar? Yes. Identical? No. They should at least look similar for some uniformity across the product line, but essentially it's the stuff you expect to be the same across a product line - steering wheel, radio and HVAC controls, gauges.

I wouldn't even call them similar. Aside from the steering wheel, etc. all the countours are different, the instrument pod is different, the center console is different, the glove box is different, the air vents are different, the armrest is different..... and so on.

But, they are both vehicles, so I guess in that regard they are similar.

The G leaves me cold, the interior of the EX, at least in the pics, is quite exhilirating.

i agree. the internal structure of the dash is probably the same, since the EX is based off the G. What they did was put in a different external dash (vents, leather panels, center console, passenger-side panel, etc.). Kinda like what lexus does with their LX/Land Cruiser and RX/Highlander, etc....

Seriously, I'm not trying to harp on this, but what manufacturer makes different steering wheels for cars built off the same platform in the same manor as this? Look at the lineup of steering wheels in the Benz line - they're nearly all the same. Same for Audi, BMW and Look at the previous generation Altima, Maxima and Murano - all the same steering wheels, etc.

No manufacturer is going to put money into making separate controls and dials for each model they bring out. It kills any concept of uniformity across the model lines. I'll still have to disagree that the dashes in the two vehicles are nothing alike.

OKAY let me break this down for you.

1. Notice the hump over the top of the Nav in the EX versus the G's dash top is level all the way across.

2. The sides of the center stack on the EX are much thicker than the G's.

3. Theres no aluminum "sword" in the EX.

4. Oval vents(EX) vs. Rectangular vents(G)

5. No adjustable Gauges on the EX.

6. Two tone dash in the EX.

7. The center stack on the EX sticks out much further than the G's.

8. The EX's passenger side of the dash curves in (or away from the pass.) more than the G's, and it has the three lines.

9. The EX dash is overall much more curvy than the G's.

I still don't see how you think they are identical. LOL. Yes the center stack, guages, and steering wheel is copied and pasted from the G, but EVERYTHING else is different.

Heat here are some quick size specs for you comparing the Rogue and EX:

All numbers taken from Nissannews.com

Rogue:
Wheelbase: 105.9 inches
Overall Length: 182.9 inches
Overall Width: 70.9 inches
Overall Height: 65.3 inches(without roof rails) 66.3 inches(with roof rails)

EX:
Wheelbase: 110.2 inches
Overall Length: 182.3 inches
Overall Width: 71.0 inches
Overall Height: 61.9 inches(without roof rails) 62.6 inches(with roof rails)

As you can see the overall length of the Rogue is slightly longer (a little more then a half inch) then the EX and the Rogue is also taller then EX, however the EX has the longer wheelbase and is slightly (by .1 inches ha) wider. Hope that helps you.

I agree witht he above poster that the rims should've definitley been at least 19" or 20". And the tire/rim width bothers me too. BMW always goes nice and wide with its performance tires and it looks so hot from behind them.

I'd love to see another darker interior color, this cream color wouldn't be an option for me.

I love that 'black currant' color. I also saw that one of the colors is 'scarlett silver'...I wonder what that looks like?

I would like to see the interior in black too...or in that browinish shade that the FX comes in. I do like the level of detail you see with the lighter color though. The pleats in the seats are very 50s custom car retro. I also like the line in the dash expanse to the right of the console. Usually that area is just this huge expanse of dash material, but the designers added a pleat or seam in this area to make it more interesting. I also like the steering wheel in the light color.

Well, we know how fast Christmas comes, so it will be here soon! :hsdance:

Can anyone tell me if that backseat legroom looks to be as small as I fear?

EX35
09-18-2007, 08:11 PM
There is minimal leg room in the back, for sure. I am also guessing these guys at autospies have the the front seats back the whole way. They are BMW lovers over there, so they view any vehicle that is competition to any BMW with a certain jaundice.

This is a smaller SUV...kind of RAV4/Honda CRX size. With that slanted roofline I am sure they had to push the back seat forward a bit so that someone sitting there could sit upright. But like all of these vehicles, they are not made for tall people.

I never thought i'd buy a brown colored car, but that color is awesome.

Is the guy in the pic huge? Cause he makes the interior look tiny!

From the Infiniti press release:

Eight exterior colors are offered: Moonlight White, Liquid Platinum, Platinum Graphite, Black Obsidian, Scarlet Silver, Tidewater, Blue Slate and Dark Currant.

The color in these pics is Dark Currant...the the pictures don't do it justice.

Personally I'd like to see some pics of a darker colored interior. All the pics so far have show the blond or wheat or whatever they want to call it bright interior. I'd like to see pics of the graphite. One of the things I currently dislike about my Maxima is the blond interior. I'd have preferred the black interior on it, but since I purchased the car used I didn't have much say in the matter.

That car looks just gorgeous... but any way they coulda just had a second row seat that could slide fore and aft (cars as cheap as the scion Xd have it, sheesh) to maximize cargo vs passenger space? The rear leg room looks absolutely hideous. Maybe the rear wheel wells would make it problematic... idk. A little surprised they didn't go all out with the EX37. Any competition in its class would be completely erased performance wise... heck the VQ35 will still erase them.

I think it is pretty nice but need to see it for real first. The photos don't tell me enough to see how real it looks. But from what I have read all of the media think it is great. When "I get mine" I guess I will know for sure ;-).

I think the shots of the rear seat finally show the REAL amt of leg room...A lot of those other shots (esp form Autospies) had the frnt seats fully pushed back to the rear seat as far as it would go. The people who run that site hate anything in direct competition with a BMW...and it shows.

OK I am a bit confused :). I have a 2005 G Coupe so I am a bit backward on tech. What is the "key" dangling on the left side of the dash in the familycar dash photo?? I thought I was staying up on these but maybe not :). :o

It's the docking port for your fob. All of the current cars have this. Also, please note that the EX has MORE front legroom than the FX so the pics with the rear seats looking pinched are correct IF you put the seats all the way back. I am 6'5" and fit fine in the FX with no need for more leg room.

very nice, maybe its just me but I really like the shape of the headlights and grill much better than the new G's.

The "docking port" for the key fob is only necessary if your fob's battery runs out of juice. Otherwise you can just keep it in your pocket.

Side note: I've heard from quite a few people who didn't like the new Altima [as a rental car] solely because they thought it was too hard to put the key in the ignition. When I told them that they could have just kept it on them and pushed the button to start the engine, they were like "Oh, well then that's awesome!".

I'm anxious to see the graphite interior as well. Regarding the merge, you understood me correctly. Just thought it would be nice to have one central forum for the EX instead of constantly checking both. With that said, I must say that Freshalloy is definitely my favorite! :D
