black top is out of a newer 180sx , red top is out of an older 180sx or s13 silvia.same hp and turbo and i even think the ecus are interchangable.

The 97-98 black tops have the gold cad-plated bracketry.
All black top ECUs seem to have refined maps that allow them to idle and run a tad bit smoother overall vs. red top ECUs.
A "refined" ECU to be on the lookout for are these remanned units with the made in phillipines main chips. These things eliminate all stumbling/hesitation and run SMOOOOTH!!!!

huh...I didn't know JECS made the SR ECUs. Do they do all of them of just those Phillipino black-tops? It's always nice to look under your hood and see names you recognize from JGTC. Just in case any of you didn't notice 240s have Calsonic radiators. I also heard that our alternators were Denso...I'm not sure though I got a chepo replacemant in mine now...traded the old one in before I heard that it might be Denso. Can anyone confirm if this is true of not? Also is there any other interesting 3rd party equipment on the KAs, or SRs?

The S13 however came with both red and black valve covers. The S13 black-top makes the same 205 hp, 203 lbs/ft as the red-top.

JECS is a manuf. of OEM electronics. That's why the chips inside nissan ECUs are made by JECS. That pinoy chip is used in certain remanufactured ECUs, and apparently seems to have even more refined features than the OEM japanese chips.

visually the blacktop has those little ridges/lines right on the front, right below the valve cover.
And a black valve cover...and a lot of the little parts/brackets around the engine are zink, or copper coated.
.I might be missing something...

JECS makes all types of electronic engine control stuff for Japanese cars, just like Calsonic makes A/C and climate control stuff (and radiator) for Japanese cars.

And it's no big deal you see that stuff on JGTC cars. It's like seeing AC Delco on a NASCAR. Same thing.

Try to refrain from using all caps. Thanks.

-alex<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial[/img]I know it's nothing major. It is just kinda nice to know that our radiators aren't some junk leftovers scavenged from a micra. I personally would trust a Calsonic radiator more than some no-name brand. If they can cool their JGTC Skyline (assuming that the Calsonic Skyline actually runs some Calsonic parts) then they can easily cool a 240SX.
