View Full Version : AEM EMS + Bluetooth?

I was searching for a good USB to Serial adapter for my AEM EMS (which should arrive today/ tomorrow) and stumbled upon:

I'm wondering if I can do a switched power adapter to the power port (from 12v to whatever it needs) and just flick it on whenever I want to connect. Has anyone else toyed with the idea?

Seems like it'd work if you could give it the right DC voltage.

It'll most likely be a 5V source. I wired up a few of these for some company sales vans using a simple 5V DC regulator transistor to IGN (3 pin transistor -- ground, 12V in, 5V out).

Sounds like a great idea.

edit: The transistor was an LM7805 regulator.

Something like this might be a better option...

The radioshack USB to Serial adapter worked well for me.

I believe he is wanting something wireless.

That's pretty much it. Wireless connectivity to my car would definitely be a nice feature, especially if I have to make changes at a race (assuming I actually use things like launch/ traction control). With the limited amount of time between runs for (Pro)Solo, I could make changes right up to the point where the car is driving off.

The other option is to do the virtual dashboard thing, with a Fujitsu LT C-500 (like $150 off of EBay). That might actually be a better option if I can use it to replace a cluster of gauges (if by chance I run 4 EGT's, water pressure, oil temp, visual knock monitor, etc).

That would be so much better than just pulling my wire from my glove bix and pluging it into my laptop............ hehe

It would never work with datalogit anyway... damn things never connect right...

I think it would end up being a huge pain. I love the aem's capabilities, but the connection issues drive me crazy.

and isn't serial transfer rate slow like 1992 all over again?

Yeah. The AEM needs a USB connection :(
