My EX makes a lot of racket as it's cooling down. It sounds like someone is throwing nails around under the hood. Anyone else getting this?

Yes lots of snapping and popping as the metal (exhaust?) cools down. More noticeable if parked in the garage.

OK, just wanted to check that it is normal. Certainly it is expected, but it seems a lot louder than what I'm used to hearing.

I don't think my EX makes any extra noises when it is cooling down- however, it "moans" when it starts up. (my G35 didn't do this, so I'm guessing it uses a different starter than the G35)

Hmmm, I've not noticed anything yet. I'll have pay more attention when I shut off the car.

The start up moan you are describing sounds like the common fuel pump problem. I believe most EX35's produced before April 2008 have this "Noisy" Fuel pump. Infiniti Will replace it under warranty. There is a TSB issued for this that your dealer should be able to reference.

My EX too makes crackling sounds when cooling down. The hotter it is outside, the louder and longer the cool down noises are.

The new fuel pump cured the start up moan;)

It`s seems like it`s coming from the exhaust manifold or the cat/back. Mine sounds like a metal cooling off from expansion. Crick! ..........crick!.......
