why does everyone put tape on their lights? is it some jdm-i-dont-want-to-brake-my-lights-while-im-drifting-on-the-mountain-roads-thing? if so, i dont see much but dirt, and more dirt there...

basically if you roll (which people do from time to time) and you break something, no one has to go pick it up or there's less stuff to pick up.

anyway, it's a lot safer considering other cars can run over your broken crap and pop a tire and cause them to roll too, or lose some expensive tires.

---added this

it's kind of funny to imagine a bunch of cars in a line rollin' cuz of popped tires from glass and other small items on the road again and again. haha.

Why? Bumping each other, or running into spun cars. Tape is not on the windows because although rollovers do happen they are the unlikely to happen. TO clarify even more, in Rollovers tailights are usually left intact and same for headlights, unless the initial contact is what caused you to rollover anyways. Taping also will help reduce debry as mentioned already and help other racers save tires and make cleanup faster... Hope that helps.. images/icons/smile.gif

Also, the track makes you roll down your front side windows all the way.

And if you taped up your windshield and rear view, you wouldn't be able to see! images/icons/tongue.gif

Windows are great for comfort, but a huge safety hazard. The glass can easily cut someone or make extraction of an occupant of a car difficult if the door is stuck. That's why you see a safety net on racing cars on the driver's side, and no window.

Windows are usually down on whatever side there is a passenger, but usually it is best to just have both windows down.

Is it just me or does Benson just get more and more awesome every time he goes out? Or maybe Alex's pic was just taken at a really choice moment during the drift. Man I'd love to learn some techniques from that guy.

Oh, and by the way, Alex...your car is looking gooooood. Richard, what did you do to your Type-X front?? images/icons/frown.gif

I'm jealous of all of you. Having fun. Overrated. Hehehe images/icons/wink.gif

Just hope that no part of your body is hanging on top of the window track when there is a side collision. There are cases where a side impact shatters the window that was lower into the door AND shot all the broken pieces in all directions, one of them being from the window track opening.

One guy got his hand and face cut up by broken window glass in this fashion.

So in the end it is even better to not have glass side windows at all during race.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial[/img]That's why no part of your body is supposed to be outside the car at any time, not even your fingers.

Richard<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial[/img]can anyone give info on the rims on the two cars on the left(black and red)? what rims are those? size? offset? tire size? where to get them at? i think i'd want to put some on my ride as my primary drift wheels. i wouldn't want to use my racinghart's.

the ones on far left are SSR Formula mesh
the ones on the right are enkeis (old school enkei)
(i'm guess by this view---i remember seeing them at the track)
the offset is probably below a +10
far left is probably +5 or 0
other is probably a +5 i would guess
tires...mmmm...probably 205/50/15

thats my guess from what i remember seeing that day
where to get? good luck (very expensive and popular now). check wheelchoice.com
you are in san diego? make a trip up to Alta in LA, that's the place to go to

Richard,

Stupid question, but do you know what lower lip is on the maroon 240 hatch in your pics? Is it the '89-90 lip on the '91+ front? It looks bad-*** in the pics on the highway!!!!

thanks,

-ben

Ben,
in answer to your question about the lip..yeah it is the 89-90 lip spoiler..i plan to do the same to my car as soon as i can find a used lip spoiler cheap.. i emailed the guy who owns that car he said said that it scrubs everywhere..thats why i'm not yet willing to play 210 for a new one from Nissan. But since doing my front bumper swap and seeing how the 91-94 lip spoiler attaches, the 89-90 one looks like it will bolt on with all brakets and stuff..of course mine will be held on with zip ties:D

anyway..gotta run

Panda,

Thanks for the info! I'm not sure if I want to do that, or the pdm/bomex lower lip, but I definitely want the '91+ bumper for my '89 hatch!

BTW, is you hatch gray, or is that your name? If it's the car, then we may have twins. images/icons/wink.gif

-ben<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial[/img]yeah my name is Gray, and my hatch is the light silver blue color..i have some pics of it on my website..just click on my website icon above.. Glad I could be of some help..the pig nose to non pig nose bumper change over isn't so bad..as long as the bumper you get has all its brakets..its no more than undoing about 15 bolts...if you have to change brackets over, like i did, then you have to undo about 30 bolts total..and its a pain, but it looks way better overall imho...well i gotta run
