What we've been told:

- FR coupe

- more than 260 HP from 3.5L NA V6

- acceleration to 60 under 6 seconds

- weight unknown (probably less than Z32)

What the old Z was:

- FR coupe

- 300 HP from TT 3.0L V6

- acceleration to 60 in 6.3s

- curb weight of 3500 pounds

Competitors (only FR coupes and roadsters 200+HP):

- BMW M coupe (240HP, 0-60 in low 5, 3150lbs)

- Honda S2000 (240HP, 0-60 in mid 5, 2800lbs)

- Audi TT Cpe (225HP, 0-60 in low 6, 3300lbs)

- MB CLK 430 (290HP, 0-60 in low 6, 3350lbs)

- Boxster Cpe (250HP, 0-60 in hi 5, 2900lbs)

- Trans AM Cp (310HP, 0-60 in mid 5, 3500lbs)

these competitors all have consistent performance:

- the BMW and Honda are similar because of accel, HP and torque accounts for weight difference

- the TT and MB because TT is 4WD, lighter and has much less HP, so same acceleration

- trans AM is heavy but powerful so has high acceleration

- the Z32 comes (older technology) close to the MB in weight, power and accel

now for the extrapolation for Z33:

the variables are weight (input), power (input), acceleration (output)

say the Z has 275 HP (nicely between 260 lower limit and 300 higher limit) and a weight of 3150lbs (which is the average of the test group), the acceleration of the Z (if it has a good transmission) will be in the low-mid 5's and if the weight is closer to the boxsters' and the hondas', we can expect almost flat 5

BUT if HP is 260 and weight is 3400, accel will be closer to 6 (unlikely that power is soo low and weight is soo high)

some here say they want 10 LB/HP, that could happen, but then the acceleration would have to be below 5, which is also unlikely for the price of the car.

Conclusion: the Z will have performance very similar (even better) to the S2000 and the Boxster for a lower price, will borrow styling from the TT, will have a V engine like the Trans AM and will have as much HP as the MB V8

Real conclusion: i think Nissan is being VERY conservative on their numbers and the Z33 will be a VERY desirable car!
