The car is a race car that was developed in conjunction with TWR (UK) for LeMan in 1998. All three cars came finished and came in the top 10. That was the best Nissan ever did.

The R390 GT1 was supposed to have been sold in limited quantities as a production car. Road & Track did a review on it. According to my Nissan sources, none of the three cars were ever sold.

I believe one of the requirements for buying the R390 was that you had to race it to promote Nissan's image...

No one bought one though, for $1 million people don't want a Nissan badge on the hood sadly. Any sports car more than $40 will have to have a lot of "heritage" in it for it to sell http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/frown.gif

Really 1 million dollars for that car?
I've seen pictures of it here and there but never knew what it was really all about. The styling is awesome though, looks like a Ferrari and Lamborghini fighter and would have made Nissan known by everyone for a long time if it was a production car.

Here is the R390's replacement, the R391.
http://homepage1.nifty.com/brain_hp/car/leman/R391.jpg

I don't have alot of details on it. I read that it was hastily prepared and raced in 1999, but I didn't see how it fared.

I do know that Nissan decided to use NISMO to race the R391, rather than TWR like they did with the R390.

Some other supercars to ponder if you have that kind of cash:

McLaren F1 627 hp, 0-60 in 3.4
Porsche 911 GT1 600 hp, 0-60 in 3.4
Mercedes Benz CLK-GTR 600 hp, 0-60 in 3.4

Other fast production cars:

Ferrari F50 500000$, 515 hp, 0-60 in 3.6
Lamborghini Diablo VT 300000$, 550hp, 0-60 in 3.6
Porshce 911 Turbo 115000$, 400hp, 0-60 in 3.9

As you can see, for a sub 3.5 0-60 the car price jumps to 1 million...
For the money the Porsche would be my choice (the 911 Turbo)

PS for comparison:

Chevrolet Corvette 50000$ 0-60 in 4.8
Ford Mustang Cobra R 55000$ 0-60 in 4.8
Dodge Viper GTS-R 95000$ 0-60 in 4.2

The Vette is indeed a good deal...

Why stop there?
Lets REALLY put things in perspective:

Acura NSX-T 85000$ 0-60 in 5.8
Aston Martin DB7 130000$ 0-60 in 5.7
Ferrari 456M 237000$ 0-60 in 5.2
Ferrari 355 Berlinetta 226000$ 0-60 in 4.8
Jaguar XKR 77000$ 0-60 in 5.0
Porsche 911 Carrera 76000$ 0-60 in 4.9

Hmmmm....the domestics are more than just a good bargain.....they are a [B]steal.

But....they're not as exclusive or classy ....but if you are really a speed freak....then status and extra options don't mean much to you.

Oh, and, by the by, depending on what magazine you read:

Chevrolet Corvete 40000$ 0-60 in 4.7-4.9
Chevrolet Corvette Z06 50000$ 0-60 in 4.5
Dodge Viper GTS 66000$ 0-60 in 4.1-4.5
Dodge Viper GTS-R 90000$ 0-60 in 3.9-4.2
Ford SVT Mustang Cobra R 55000$ 0-60 in 4.5-4.8

I think the LeMans rule was that it had to sell for less than $1,000,000!, so there were several cars ie Mercedes CLK? Toyota GT one, Nissan R390 selling for that figure.

if nissan would have stayed with TWR instead of nismo, thay probebly would have won this years race. when nissan decided to race without TWR, which already was starting to build the nissan/TWR r391, TWR designer trevor wilkenshaw(i think that was his name) went on to help audi devolop their car, who won le mans in only their second year.

I agree that they should have stuck with TWR. I don't really know why they made the switch.
To bad. The win could have helped ailing Nissan.
