Um, yeah! http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/smile.gif That is the beast to own if you can afford it. My boss has an A8L and I can tell you that even in that form, that car is absolutely amazing. I thas almost a limousine amount of room inside, is solid, and has plenty of thrust to set you back in the seat. It also handles well with the 18" wheels, despite the size and smooth ride. An S8 with a 6 speed manual would kick butt! http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/grin.gif

Too bad they wont offer the S8 in the States with the 6spd. It's a shame really....

By the way, ever see the movie Ronin??? Very cool chase scene with a S8 going through some twisty roads ending with a car crash. It was very neat to watch indeed.

Oh yes, I've seen Ronin a few times! http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/smile.gif I'm one of the biggest Audi freaks ever to walk the planet, so I take note of these things. it is a shame that we probably will never see an S8 with the 6 speed, but I suppose if you have enough money it can be done, somehow.

Yeah, I'm thinking it would be a good idea to start an aftermarket company specializing in such things as tranny swaps and installations, seeing how every car manufacturer today is making their "sporty" cars with automatic transmissions standard. All I need is money, anybody want in?? http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/smile.gif I

im sure an S8 with 6sp is importable, without resorting to such drastic measures as transmission changes...

though the price would probably go high, like, say... a SKYLIKE!!

Ronin was the best!!
Gone in 60 seconds sucked!!

Yeah, Ronin was a great movie, Too bad the chase scene with the Audi wasnt longer http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/smile.gif That would have been great!! I also love the second chase scene with the Peugot and Bimmer.

How come Audi doesn't offer the S8 in the US? we have had it here for a while. Surely Audi will take the new W12 version to the US though.

Audi has just now confirmed it's plans to import the S8 to the States. If you ask me, they probably had to wait for the right time to do so. I think they're preparing the US market for the next A8 by building upon the reputation of the current one. By adding the more sporting S8 to the A series lineup they will attract more buyers.

BTW, I'd like to get my hands on one of those V12 Quattros, and twin turbo charge it. http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/smile.gif That would be fun.

Is the W12, the super concept car that VW made or is it a special engine?

If you turbocharge a V12, couldn't you quad turbocharge it? hasn't that been done before?

I was actually just wondering about that. With the W12, the S8 doesn't have a performance advantage other than suspension setup, brakes, and it's smaller size. I wonder if the next S8 will be the W12 with twin turbos? That would be cool indeed! http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/grin.gif

BTW, that W12 is quite a technological masterpiece!

Don't forget that the S8 has an aluminum intensive frame and AWD. It's not just about the engine...

The super concept car produced by Audi has a V16, which is 2 VR8 engine banks stuck together. That car is too advanced for its time!

Just to clear things up on the A8 vs. S8, and the W12 engine!

Both the A8 and the S8 are all aluminimun in partnership with ALCOA and both have AWD, except the cheap version of the A8, which I think has been dropped from the US lineup.

The W12 engine is essentially two 3.0 VR6 engines put together in a space saving configuration that takes up no more space than the V8. So, you have two narrow angle (15 degree) V6 engines angles away from one another for a total displacement of 6.0 liters. Like the VR6, each V6 section shares a common head. Where things are different is that the internals are all lightweight and the engine uses a dry sump for lubrication. I believe this engine has 420 HP and an even higher number in torque (can't remember), and most of the torque comes on in the low rev range. The extended A8 body with this powerplant is suppose to do 0-60 in less than 6 seconds, which is quite impressive for a car of this size and caliber.

This engine could probably be quad turbocharged, but I think two would be enough. Now, twin sequential turbochargers (two pair of two in-line) would be something to talk about! http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/grin.gif

I really wonder what a W12 sounds like...
would it sound like 2 v6's, a v12 or a completely new sound http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/smile.gif
but i am sure the W engine will go in the A8 and new Volkswagen ultra-luxury car, not the supercar...

I think it would be a good idea to take the 12 cylinder motor, turbo charge it, and shove it under the hood of the S8. What you'd end up with would be most facinating.

you know i might get blasted for what i am about to say but i think there is a limit to how much horsepower we can cram into a car for road purposes...
i think when a 4000 pound sedan's horsepower gets higher than a proper race car, something is wrong with society.
A Hi-PO V8 would suffice... A W12 is just extra luxury...
End rant
