Its sad that they take an engine with all that power...then put it in a heavy truck! This truck is the ultimate symbol of how out of control the SUV/truck craze is!

what's wrong with it? it fills a niche.

they need to lose those @#)$*#)%*()*%@%)* lights!

edit: don't forget, for the past 15 years, the f150 has been the best selling vehicle in the us. which means ford can now sell hipo parts to some of the people who buy the 800,000 f150's every year.

I know theres a market for this truck. Its just a little silly to me to make a "sport truck"..Its like a 911 turbo with a towing package!Yeah the F150 is the best selling full size, out of the 800,000 sold, how many do you think were purchased under fleet/goverment,and state contracts?(Ford musta been the lowest bidder!) Chevy actually sells more trucks than Ford if you combine Chevy/GMC sales (Its the same truck anyway!).Im not a Chevy fan by the way..There all domestic garbage to me!

actually no, last time i checked even with gmc (which only sells about 50,000 sierras a year anyway), gm is still over 100,000 sales behind. and they have been for the past 20 years.

as for fleet sales - that's a dealer thing. manufacturers aren't directly involved.

We will agree to disagree about the truck numbers since my info is drastically different from yours. The info I have states GM beating Ford by a number only in the thousands (less than 10,000 if I remember right)combined GMC/Chevy full size truck sales against Ford.In State and Goverment contracts..The Manufacturer IS involved. You think congress calls ABC Ford in Washington D.C. and places an order?.No,the dealer might handle the delivery of the vehicles, dont confuse the two.Fleet sales to "Mike's Plumbing"..Thats a dealer thing completely.

Also I would like to add that OVER 11,000 Sierra trucks were built THIS month! How does that equate to only 50,000 sales?

i can't check my numbers as the site i usually go to is not working right at the moment. therefore, i have to work from memory.

edit: well isn't this lovely, the site works just fine with ie http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/mad.gif

chevy: 642,119
gmc: 188,907
gm total: 831,026
ford: 876,716

gmc sales have definately picked up since the last time i bothered to check them specifically. still, not quite enough.

Im still looking for my info on the sales..but I did find an article Edmunds wrote stating that Chevy/GMC truck sales and the Ford are almost equal...40,000 more sales for Ford isnt "almost equal"..less than 10,000 for GM over Ford is.Check your figures and get back to me..Last I saw hard numbers was about 6 months ago..I suppose things could change..but with GMC sales up..I figured it would change more to the Generals favor.

If GM trucks sales had surpassed Ford truck sales, believe me you would see it in GM advertising! And you don't see it now, because it hasn't happened.

**DONOTDELETE**

Not exactly, GM tries to convince people that the GMC and Chevy trucks are 2 different animals..and this works alot of times too..Ive shown used ones to customers and they say.."Well I wanted a Chevy"..So it may not be in their best intrest to show "combined" sales figures.

Finally, a vehicle in which those usually aweful looking clear tail lamp lenses look good!

**DONOTDELETE**
02-03-2001, 04:32 PM
I think it's an impressive vehicle, but I really wish they would have used the standard tailights on this truck. It seems everybody is copying Lexus which is really too bad. Dont get me wrong, I like them on the Lexus, but not other cars.

Those clear tail lamps look terrible... All do especially at night. IS300 is the ONLY vehicle that they look half way decent on...but I would still prefer regular color lenses on the IS...too boyish (kid) appearing...do NOT follow this trend Nissan...

This truck is a waste of Earth's resourses... Nice performance for a truck, and it is quite handsome in appearance (except for clear tail lamps). But have you seen the epa ratings?? There should be heavy taxes (or fines) on such wastefulness of our resourses...

no, there shouldn't.

it's a good truck, and it fills a niche. if fuel economy is an actual problem, then guess what - people won't buy it. but they do, which would seem to indicate that it is just fine, thank you.

I wish my Hardbody had half as much power as that monster and I have the V6. I like it other than the clear taillamps.

Very nice...

But I think I'd rather have the GMC Sierra C3....

6.0L V8, 320 hp, 370 ft-lbs of torque, naturally aspirated (unlike the F-150 Lightning), four wheel drive, sport suspension...

..but not anywhere near as fast as the lightning (0-60 in 8.3, 14ish 1/4mi), but more useful with an extended cab, better interior appointments and four wheel drive....

Or maybe the Blackwood....

A truck isn't a sports car, ya know....

5.4L V8, 300hp, 355ft-lbs torque...

While I like the idea of the Lincoln Navigator nose on a pickup, what I don't like is the four doors...I'd much rather just have an extended cab...I pretty much hate four full doors on any pickup truck...

Except for the Ford Sport Trac, which has really really grown on meconsiderably since I first said..."Ewww!....what is that thing?"

So if everyone commited mass-suicide, then it is okay?? Just because people buy these gas hogs does not mean it is okay... Do conservatives conserve so you can waste? So sad...

no, but trucks, sports cars, and classics are always the first targets when the epa/carb/etc decide they need even more control over people.

the mustang cobra should have the lightning's engine... that would be sweet...

the cobra r isn't enough for you?

they'd need an even more ridiculous hood to cover the blower if they used the lightning unit.

the Cobra R does not have a radio or a backseat, it doesnt have insulation like the regular mustang, its a pure race car... i wouldnt buy it

now the only mustang i would spen money on is the dark green "Bullit Mustang"

did anyone see it at any of the shows?

the only thing remotely "ricey" is the taillights. that truck can definitely back up its image, no rice there (with rice meaning a car/truck that looks fast but actually isn't)

i see your point about the r, but still, ford sells blower kits for the 4.6, which would make for a much better sports car engine than the lightning unit (which is at a basic level a truck motor).

very true, perhaps the engine in the Lightning would be better suited in a full blown sports car, named after a reptile of some sort (Viper already taken)

I heard that the GMC and Chevy full size oick-ups are becoming pieces of **** already.
Little things like things vibrating, windows don't completly shut and make that whistling sound. All after 9 months of road use. And I've noticed, since I heard that, 4 GMC Sierra's driving down the road and one of there day-time running lights were burnt out. I don't know how reliable the source was but it sounds like the usual GM equipment to me!

if the lightning engine went into a car, i think "torino" is available... and "torino cobra" always had a ring to it... http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/wink.gif
