View Full Version : Went to the drag strip today...New Best time!!!

08-11-2002, 08:28 PM
Hey everyone,

We had a private track day today thanks to a local website. Car ran great, no problems. I finally learned to launch a little better on my street tires.

60' - 2.13
1/8 - 8.23 @ 94.7
1/4 - 12.38 @ 120.28

Track was in really good shape today and was able to hold first gear when it came into boost on my streets, hence the better ET's and Traps. I have never felt me car grab second like that!!

nice time. If you dont mind me asking what is your goal on street tires, and do you have any slicks?

08-11-2002, 09:36 PM
nice time man!

08-11-2002, 10:43 PM
Nice work! There is definately more in that car! I can tell by the high mph and conservative 60 ft time. Once you get that launch technique down you should be able to nail 1.8 or better times. Also expect to see a 12.0 if you can better your short times.

The car was really hauling at the top end how much boost were you running and what ahve you done to the engine?

08-11-2002, 10:48 PM
bone stock bottom end. including stock HeadGasket

21 PSI on a GT3040.

08-11-2002, 11:28 PM
jesus thats fast. i'll send you my slicks. you got the top end but not the launch or the 1/8 mile. dang get some traction...... guess the 3040 is doing you right? did you dyno it yet?

08-11-2002, 11:38 PM
Very nice! Great trap speeds. You should be able to get that 60' down to a 2.0 on street tires. That should net a 12.1 or 12.2. Definitely get a set of drag radials or slicks if you want to see some 11's as they are well within your reach. I second Greasers Question: Have you had it on the dyno yet?

08-12-2002, 01:56 AM
compared to his t3/to4e 50 trim setup, this one didnt net much more power i dont think from what i heard. i know its bb tho

good times scott. u get the nismo key http://forums.freshalloy.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/smile.gif

nice times, i was wondering what rpm do u launch at, because i went to the track today too, but in cali, and i have a .702 reaction, but my 0-60ft sucks, i launch at 3k, spun 1st try to feather it but keep spinning, , dont even ask what time i got because i dont think it worth it

08-12-2002, 03:10 AM
not the best 60' time? how the heck do you get those times that low. im open diff, street tires, best 60' times range from 2.2-2.345 seconds. you guys make it sound like thats bad, but isnt that the best possible on open diff and street tires?

08-12-2002, 09:48 AM
For a RWD car those 60ft are "OK" but they should be better even if the car has an open diff. Launching a RWD or AWD car takes practice, I am used to racing FWD cars and I still haven't learned to launch my 240 yet but then again I haven't taken it to the track either.

The new setup made the EXACT same power once it came on spool @ 5100. it was within 2 hp from there to redline. I believe that the cams are the limiting factor now. I hate the lag and i have a .63 A/R GT30 Turbine housing on order that should be in this week.

I am happy with what the car runs. Not being a drag racer, i dont really care for putting slicks on the car. i still might get some Nittos tho.

Scott, what intake manifold do you have in ur car? You should def. make a website what you did to your car. http://forums.freshalloy.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/smile.gif S13sr20 or S14sr20?

08-12-2002, 06:22 PM
you mean the stock cams? oh yeah those are #$*)($%&. heehe. I got JWT S4's sitting in my trunk hint hint.....the 3040 is bigger than my 3037 in what way? turbine or compressor?

i got full 20psi at 5,000rpm. sounds like you did too, but i rev to 7,800rpm. the cams made my full boost point go higher in rpm but i dont care.

Get some falken azennis sport tires. They let my 141rwhp KA SPANK on any car outta the hole at the street you know whats. type r's, turbo ls's, crx's with LS's......the list went on fri night.

08-12-2002, 06:27 PM
i had such a bad time probably beacuse my tires were close to bald. would it be better if i drop pressure, it aroudn 33-36 in rear and 33 in front, also i stage at the light at 3k and drop the clutch, does that sound like a bad technique?

08-12-2002, 11:32 PM
Definately drop the pressure in your tires. It may not seem like it would make a huge difference but you will notice it. 33 is high even compared to what Nissan recommended, 29. Try going to 25 or so and drop it more depending on how it feels to you.

The GT3040 has a larger compressor wheel and the same turbine wheel as the GT3037 (according to the HKS USA site).

S13sr20 or S14sr20?

Uh...someone talking to me?

Beautiful time man. How in the heck did you get those tires to hook up ? I tried the 1/8 mile once, and spun through 1st and 2nd gear, I'm only running 12 psi on the T25. How's that headgasket holding up also ? I heard it's recommended to go metal gakset after 16psi.

Greaser, were you at VMP back in July i think ? I saw you I think, your car is a red coupe ? you were running low 11's while getting squirrely all the way down the track.

08-13-2002, 12:45 PM
S13wannabe yeah that was me. big Millennium Autosports sticker on the side in a maroon 89 coupe. Squirly was exactly what the car was doing that day. Shoulda seen it the night before at VMP doing low 11's @15psi perfectly stuck to the strip.

08-13-2002, 01:00 PM
How in the heck are you gettng 11's out of 15 psi ? Do those cams and intake make that big of difference ? I was planning on getting that Greddy manifold you got with some 550cc injectors and JWT 264/264 cams with about .453 lift I think and 11 degrees duration. If it makes that big of a difference then I've got a hard-on just thinking about bolting those goodies on by end of October.

08-13-2002, 01:05 PM
haha everyone asks that. 397rwhp at 15psi....in a 2500lb coupe with stock suspension and slicks. quaiffe lsd. 9:1 compression with JWT S4 cams stock cam gears stock head no porting. check my "dyno results and impressions" thread for more info.

wieght should be going down some more. I want the power to stay the same to get used to the car. lower 11's on 15psi is my goal.

08-13-2002, 01:05 PM
well, he also has a HUGE turbo...HKS GT3037S (right?) so even though it's 15psi, it's flowing mad air. and the cams and intake help a lot too...but i'm just saying....

08-13-2002, 02:30 PM
Greaser, any thought to a air to water intercooler, and some aerodynamic aids?

08-13-2002, 04:33 PM
Aero mods are in the works. air to water maybe......then i could use the intercooler in my 96 with a small T3. i dont know yet i just want to get the race car back on the road now.

I'm thinking about undertrays for the car since i just started fiberglass work. and a nice front lip out of some metal.
