I believe all KA transmissions can be swapped, but I would imagine that an 89 tranny wouldn't be in the greatest shape, and it may well be worth it to get one out of a newer car.

Yes, the 5-speed are all the same sans a few sensors that will be needed for the '98 that may not be on the '89 trans...

And read here (http://plaza.ufl.edu/briand/trannyswap.htm) for more info if you need it...

The other link on that site doesnt work anymore. Anyone know where to find another site like that one? I recently swapped in a manual tranny in my auto 240 and i had looked at that site a while back and it had a description on what wires need to be changed on the wire harness going to the ecu. And other wire changes like reverse sensor, neutral position and speed sensor. Anyone know how to wire these to the corresponding ecu pinout?

I am currently in the process of the swap myself. I have gotten the old tranny out and all of the electrical tuff done. All I need to do now is just put in the manual. Yesterday I just did the wiring that you were talking about. The wires you need to cut into are the Red/green one for the nuetral. I dont know about the fith position since you dont need to use it. Ask me about it in more detail if you want. Nismo. How did it go for you? Did you have any problems? I should have mine running as soon as I get some bolts.
