I was wondering if a tach adapter is needed for a 93 240sx with a KA24DE if I was going to use a MSD 6A or Crane HI-6? No one has given a SOLID answer on this yet. Please inform http://forums.freshalloy.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/smile.gif Thanks...

Anyone? I'm sure SOMEONE here has an aftermarket ignition system installed on a S13 with a DOHC KA.

I have a MSD 6A on my 95 KA. I have the tach adapter installed on my car. According to JWT, it's required on 95+ Nissan distributors. Just install your 6A and have the adapter off to the side. If your car doesn't run or runs funny, hook up the tach adapter. If you don't need it, return it. It's only like $30.

I verified with JWT that 95 and up need a tach adapter, but when it came to the 91-94 they were unsure. Now, 89-90's do need a tach adapter too, but they are also different than 91-94's. There's got to be someone here running a 91-94 S13 with aftermarket ignition that knows the answer. I'm just trying to save myself some time and money...

I have a 93 with a MSD 6A and a Blaster 2 coil. You do not need a tach adapter. Mine doesn't have it and it works perfect.

Thank you! http://forums.freshalloy.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/smile.gif

So, 89-90 S13 and 95+ S14 DO need a tach adapter. 91-94 S13 does NOT. Closed case then I guess.

I just bought a MSD 6A Second hand and all it came with was the unit and harness.

Ignorant question but what do I hook up where?

I plan to install this in my 1993 240SX Coupe w/ KA24DE.

I tried looking everywhere and nothing...

Any Information would be awesome, thanks.

Try this link...
It's under ignition systems (high powered)
240sx.org installs (http://www.240sx.org/faq/index.html)

For a SOHC, but still usable.

I found this, does this make sence?

I would just splice it into the green and black wire going into the coil from the dizzy?

This is the way I installed it for an MSD6A...

Wires going to coil will now be cut & re-routed to MSD.
Black/Red > solder to thin red (MSD).
LimeGreen/Black > solder to white (MSD).

Wires from MSD will now go to coil.
Orange (MSD) > solder to cut wire at coil (+)black/red.
Thin black (MSD) > solder to cut wire at coil (-)limegreen/black.

Thick red to (+) battery.
Thick black to (-) battery or solid ground.

According to Kyle, you don't need the tach adapter.

Edit:
Had it on my SOHC from 4 yrs ago and now finally got around to doing it on my DOHC conversion.
Edited for exact colors for S-13 DOHC install.
Tach adapter not needed for DOHC.

Hope this helps!
