My wife totaled her '00 Accord SE 2 weeks ago. With the Insurance payout she is looking at good used cars. She is deciding between a '99 Accord-EX (V6/Coupe) for about $14K or a certified '00 Std. G20 with the Leather/Conv. Package for almost $15K. She likes both cars but obviously the Accord V6 has more power. Will she be happy with living with the G20 day in & day out. Both cars have about 30K miles & the G20 is in Excellent condition & the Accord VG, but not excellent. Any advice????

Thanks! Tom

G20 is a wonderful drivers car. It is going to have better gas mileage than the ACCORD, but the power is still not comparable (to my knowlegde) the G20 however is extremely reliable and had been in the INFINITI lineup since the early 90's so it is has been around, and is concidered incredibly reliable. I was actually in the process of buying a black 02 G20 with the sports package but they went fast, and i have not been able to find any.....and this is from exactly 8 months ago tomorrow......GOOD MEMORY SERVES WONDERS...... http://forums.freshalloy.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif

G20 came later, YEARS after the Q45 and M30. Yes Faddy, memory is wonderful.

Tom: G20 is a great car if you like the size. Go for it! http://forums.freshalloy.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif

Edit: Capitalize YEARS so Faddy can READ IT. http://forums.freshalloy.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/wink.gif

Which would explain your need to go back and read up on Infiniti history.

i know of a 99 accord v6 for sale.
i know why i wouldnt buy it over the g20.
that transmission has problems
and the reason the accord is for sale is because it has some herky jerky tranny issues.

00's have an extended warranty for the transmissions to 100,000 miles

Tom

I just bought a 2000 G20 on Friday. All I can say for now is that I like the handling of the car and the steady braking it has on it. The car has a solid feel to it and good seat comfort. Good buy for a used reliable car.

thanks for the replies...

But what's this about the Accord herky, jerky transmission.
I assume this is on the V6 Automatics only? What years are supposedly impacted? I want to check further with the Honda gang if they come clean. Thanks a lot...

Ack you're right. The first-gen G20 came out in 1992. Second-gen is definitely a bit nicer though.

basic transmission failures on models from 99 - on.
many cars, in the thousands were effected. pull up a search on it.

Actually it came out in late 90 as a 91 model.

update - my soon to be ex put a deposit down on the Accord today. She got it for $13.0 which is an excellent price for a '99 EX-Coupe that's a V6. The deciding factor was she felt the Accord was more car for the $, and it felt more solid on the road compared to the G20. Thaaks so much for the comments here and best of luck to you G20 owners. It seems like a nice car that's maybe under appreciated.

well, if she wants an all around reliable vehicle, then i would go with the G20, mainly because yeah.. it's nissan's luxury line, and ya. The accord on the other hand has the all "mighty" V6 and will surely have a little better accel.
good luck
