hey guys, im the proud owner of a 95 white S14. Only problem is, i find the hood to be excessively heavy, like 50 pounds TOO heavy. i was wondering if you guys felt the same way, and where do you guys think I can get a carbon fiber hood for a 95-96 240SX?

Sunny Styling, VIS, Fiberimages, blah blah. Lots of people make CF/FPR hoods for the S14. And yes, the OE hood is obscenely heavy. Just make sure you buy a quality piece, and use PINS. My Fiberimages (RIP) hood didn't ever like to stay down.

Dont I know that one!!! and dont buy cheap pins from JC whitney!!! but dont cry yet russ. your hood still lives. we smeared it in adhesive and rolled around on it smearing primer all over it http://forums.freshalloy.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/laugh.gif and may even have found someone willing to buy it from ME after my new one arrives lol

It's not just the S14 hoods... my 1991 hood feels like someone's sitting on it everytime I open it. I never thought I'd consider getting a fiberglass or CF hood, but my 240 seems to be asking for one.

of course your hood is heavy, its enormous....just the part of your car in front of the firewall is longer than a civic http://forums.freshalloy.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/tongue.gif http://forums.freshalloy.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/tongue.gif

just a warning, you are going to have one HELL of a time getting a CF hood that fits like stock, the s14 hood is just too big, and CF warps too easily in production, a VIS almost certainly wont fit right, and tends to not stand behind theyre products, sunnystyling im not familer with, a fiberglass hood can be sanded and straightened unlike CF, in fact get one oversized and have a good shop cut it down and fit it properly

I have seen some articles in performance magazines where the stock hood is wrapped in carbon fiber. Retains all of the same mounting points and has the same structural strength. Of course for your application, you may want to have a fiberglass hood wrapped in CF. Would be pretty expensive, might just want to buy some linear actuators.

i got a fiberglass vented hood from JUN it fits like a glove, while not quite as light as carbonfiber it's still pretty damn light...and reapairable....just in case.also...amen to fiber images...i haven't seen the one for the S14...but i've seen their hood for the Corrado...and it's a great fit....much better than the CF on my honda...from vis

PS anyone wanna buy an S14 steel hood? http://forums.freshalloy.com/ubbthreads/images/icons/tongue.gif
