I'd say get a 91. Supposedly they have the best cams, and are the quickest. I'm not sure when the first year LSD was offered but I think the 91's had them as an option, could be wrong though. As for the lightest, I think 89-90 was the lightest years. However the reduction in weight came at the cost of power. The 89-90 has the 2.4L 12V SOHC KA24E which puts out 140hp and 152lbs of torque. The 91-94 came with the 2.4L 16V DOHC KA24DE which puts out 155hp and 160lbs of torque. The 91-94 also has more aftermarket support and has a few commercial turbo kits available. The 89-90 has some aftermarket support but most modifications are usually custom work. I chose a 90 240sx for lack of initial research; however, I'm definitely happy with my choice now. If you want to take the road less traveled, then join the few who have pioneered, and turned their SOHC's into torque monsters. But beware, the road is a bumpy one!

It is the same Super HICAS as the 300ZX, with a little different valving and computer parameters owing to 240SX's weight, wheelbase, and suspension.
Rus240sx, I think most would agree the difference among the numbers of KA24DE-equipped cars (91+) you cite are not statistically significant given the variables of temperature, altitude, state of tune, etc., unless they are an average of many runs per car.

i'd say S14's are the better choice, just because you get a "better" engine off the batt. i've raced a modded '91 when my '95 was basically stock, and i ran him. it was probably miles/ driving ability (although it was a drag race. . . and i had a heavy passenger). i'd say the turbo kits lean more towards the S14, too.

buut, since we're talking about S13's, i'd go with '91 with it's "better" cams. in addition to that, the later styling in the '91-93 looks better IMO.
Swaybars were standard on SE and LE models IIRC.
the leather seats were available on LE's also (i rode in one in Chicago once, and even though they look damn cool, i like the cloth better.)
LSD was an option on SE and LE models, i don't think it was a base option. everything else is just added weight IMO.
(both my '92 and '95 were base models. . . maybe i just like the excuse...).
also, from what i hear, canadian models had standard LSD, daytime running lights, and non auto seatbelts available.

'91 SE had a "Sports Handling Package" that included Viscous Limited Slip Differential, ABS, and Super-HICAS - more weight for supposed more handling prowess. Owner responses are mixed on the Super-HICAS, which adds the weight, 'tho the ABS and VLSD are desirable. I am not convinced the '91's cams really make that much difference; I have never seen any hard performance metrics that prove them as "better".

The 91 cams are supposed to be more aggressive, which is why it is common for people with newer 240's to swap their own cams for the 91's. As for numbers(stock):
90 240sx 0-60 in 8.8, 1/4 in 16.5
91 240sx 0-60 in 7.9, 1/4 in 16.1
93 240sx 0-60 in 8.4, 1/4 in 16.3
95 240sx 0-60 in 8.3, 1/4 in 16.1

These times are according to car-stats.com
I don't know they're credibility(sp?) though, especially since they have a listing for a 95 240sx SE-R 0-60 in 8.0, 1/4 in 15.8

Thanks for the info guys....the more i thnk about it and start making plans, the more the sr swap looks better, i do like the styling better of the s13's over the other models, and particularly the 91-93...the superhicas, im assuming thats the same idea as the hicas on the 300ztt...4 wheel steering? and would it be worth it to just get a quaife?
