I think my backup lights are weak too! Especially after I tinted my windows. Can I use higher wattage bulbs to lighten it up a bit? If so, what wattage is safe?

Why does everyone want my stock lights?

**DONOTDELETE**
10-10-2001, 04:22 PM
Because they bolt-on to the 95-96. Plue they look alot better then the 95-96 (no bump). But thats just my 2 cents.

Go for the R33 tail lights..

I remember about 6months ago i went through this same fight and got pricked out of a set of 97-98 tailights. On the mailing list about a year ago the same thing

everyone sucks, i hate this tailight ****.

Lets just say, I have a feeling the 95-96 tail lights will look SO good, that many upgrades will think again before swapping them for the newer 97-98 tail lights.

Not that the 97-98 tails look bad, but with some minor mods.. the 95-96 setup will look REALLY nice. If anyone is local SoCal and wants to work on this with me, e-mail me off list.. I have all the ideas ready to go. I just want a nice looking S14 to take pictures on.

I agree, I have a 97' 240, but I love the 95-96 tails with the mid section painted. Check Veilside S14's tailights.

I have my mid section painted.. did it myself. Very clean, but i still don't like the outcome http://www.freshalloy.com/ *this was before I clear-coated the tails*

here are pics:

I like that painted look! http://www.freshalloy.com/
I actually bought an extra piece of the 95-96 tail piece to do this mod!

I am just wondering how do you mask the backup lights? Can I just use some tape (duct tape?) to mask them?

Thanks.

taku
10-11-2001, 08:59 AM
absolutely. In fact i used that yellow colored masking tape. Taping the reverse lights took me about 25-30 minutes each believe it or not. But I'm a stickler for 'doing it right' hehe.. so that part took time.
Once they were taped up i used this paint:
http://www.freshalloy.com/images/imported/2001/10/5924310000f02000180L-1.jpg

I used it because i had NO idea what else to get and it was suggested to me by a friend. Believe it or not it matches my paint perfect.. granted it's black on black.

painting them took time since i put 4 coats. You can get away with 3 coats, but i wasn't satisfied as i thought i still saw some haze of spray..
I clearcoated twice..

Drying the crap out takes forever http://www.freshalloy.com/ but it was an easy first experience.

I'm planning on replacing the center piece, and spray tinting all the rears...
I think this looks FAR BETTER than what i have now..

You know, I think it would be a little tricky to get paint to match the colour of your car... you have the green/purple colour, remember?

Maybe you should ask Technik if they can spare you any paint after they finish working on Jameson's car...

Ha, that car with the full red lenses is Tony Schulz, here in Atlanta. I gave him that idea after he saw mine. I did the same, but painted the center section to match, filling in the keyhole and emblem hole. Mike, you've seen it, you gonna do some lights similar to that? I know how you LOVED them at the meet.

**DONOTDELETE**
10-11-2001, 12:35 PM
What do you need to spray tint? Is it just a special paint?

Amen my brothah! I dont care HOW much sh1t talking we did at the meet, I still think your car rocked -- good taste man. I mean, I spent quite some time inspecting your car looking at all the detailed mods. For those of you who HAVENT seen Russ' car, take a look at images 104-116 at:

http://clearcorners.com/240sx/coverage/meet08/

Personally Russ, I wouldnt have painted the center panel body color.

Anyway, I am not going to reveal my secrets.. I'll go ahead and post pics when its all done. http://www.freshalloy.com/

so how do you tint the rear lights? is this a d-i-y project?

gold95: yes it is Do it yourself. There is no reason any of you can't do this because I can, and i'm a girl. Clarification, I do not have testicles! http://www.freshalloy.com/

======================

No it does not light up. LED's in there would hence be pointless and can't be done without some serious mod-ing around.

Where can i get the tint to do that?

From tailights to testicles. Only here on freshalloy. Geez. The paint I used is a Krylon brand, called Stained Glass Spray. It is used for, obviously, glass, but works well on plastic. It dries gloss, so you can wetsand the lens smooth, I sanded off all the lettering and DOT stamping on it, then spray them. You MUST use thin, light coats. It lasts about 8-10 months before the elements begin hazing it, just sand and spray again.

uhh, maybe having testicles inhibits us from tinting the lights. . . and that's why you were able to. . .
