How do you check them? can someone show me a picture because I can't seem to find the LED on my ECU. I found the white dial. I turned my car to the on position and turned it all the way clockwise then all the way counter but i didn't see any LEDs light up. what does that do? all the writing around it is in japanese. Thanks.

What is the number on your ECU?

Also, some ECU do not have the LED. You procedure is right, but you cant miss the LED right above the, screw.

As far as checking codes without the LED, I havent read any information on how to check them.

I'm not sure what the number because it is faded but it says E5 and it works with my blacktop s13 sr20det. Here are the pictures of my ECU.

Yeah, in that opening next to it is the space for the light. I dont know how to get the codes without an LED.

I know someone on here can help.

can't u just read the number of blink of the "check engine light"? like the KA' procedure?

by the way, for reference:

Long Flash - 0.6 seconds on (the first digit)
Short Flash - 0.3 seconds on (the second digit)
Long Gap - 2.1 seconds off (used between codes)
Short Gap - 0.9 seconds off (used between digits)

There are two digits in each code. Count the long flashes, then the short flashes (only count how many times the light is ON) and you'll have a 2 digit code. These codes are covered in the service manual

Code Meaning
11 - Camshaft Position Sensor
12 - Air Flow Meter
13 - Coolant Temperature Sensor
14 - Vehicle Speed Sensor
21 - Ignition Signal
25 - IACV - AAC Valve

I dont know if he has 91 and up. I have a 90 with a 180sx gauge cluster, and it has no check engine light. Also the fact that we dont hook up a few check sensor warnings on the ecu to dash connector, I am really not sure.

I have a 1989. I looked in the hole where the LED is supposed to be but there is no LED. There is words printed on the board that say RED LED 548 on it and the place where the two LED leads would go but there is no LED. So how do i check codes now? Thanks for all the help.

I really dont think there is a way without the LED. Do you know anyone that has another SR, that you can test?

What is your car doing by chance?

I can try to see if i can borrow someone's ECU. My car feels very slow in the lower rpms, almost like it's bogging. I do not have any IC leaks or any other problems. My car basically doesn't seem to make power before about 3500 rpm. If i drive it like a normal n/a car and stay off boost it feel ok but once the boost comes on, say full boost by 2500 rpm, it starts to feel like it should start moving but doesn't and it actually feels like it's slower when i floor it compared to partial throttle. sorry, that's the best way i can describe it. my mods are listed in my profile. thanks.

How do i reset my ECU?

highVd, did you figure out this problem? I have a similar one.
