I went, was awesome. This is the 1st vid I've ever made so its not awesome Nekopunch stylings, but it hits the highlights. Alex vs Sam was worth the price of admission alone. BTW, that's me saying "OHH OHH" every time something happens. hhaa

vid of the drifts of many (http://www.team140.com/~jimmy/pics/vids/Drift-Atlanta.wmv)

btw, starting at 1:28 in the vid, the goldish car is our very own Thoraxe. he made it to the top 8! good job.

Sam's definetly got the racing hole tactics down pat. Having all that torque on tap immediately certainly helps it to overtake.

Looks great! Congrats to all the participants!

he also has the " my car's team has unlimited funds, i will push you out of the way if you don't move out of my path, i dont care if my car or your car gets dented up in the process" technique down pat also.

All the drivers have reservations about Sam's choice of driving technique at the event but we will raise that up as part of a list of demands the drivers will make to Slipstream.

Off the records, the lack of communication between Slipstream, the judges, and the drivers caused many parts of the competition to become a "free for all" battle. The way Sam drove is an example of one taking the competition into his own hands and writing his own rules.

At D1 one of the rules that is laid down at driver's meeting is that passing is not as important as display of skill & control. In Atlanta no such rule was imposed.

True, true... Too many lawn mower passes taken too. Plastic barriers should've setup to discourage that.

With the Mopar and GTO team, it makes the playing field funky to the privateers... Part of the growing pains to this sport...

McGuirk

Yes that was extremely discouraging. I wouldn't feel comftorable being matched against those guys. I want to against someone and try to move gracefully with them turn for turn. Not ram them, cut them off, chirp my tires, and dart across the lawn, ugh.

did they even bother with some sort of safety workers out there? That really did look like a mess. Like they just got a bunch of powerful cars and said, "alright, go out and do whatever you want. We don't care if you hit each other." It seriously does look like some drivers were trying to promote accidents, or push/force other cars off the course.

wow he (sam huberstankantenetetteeette, i cant spell his name) looks like a huge [censored]. is it just me or did he run TWO other cars off the road (alex and i believe hiro)? i woulda wanted to punch him in the face.

yeh, some of my friends and I were talking about Sam Bubinette(?) and his passing people. He seemed to have good control of the car. IIRC, he didn't loop it once and he had nice angle. However, he did come off as the aggressive american(I will pass and destroy you) grunt grunt. Tandem seems to be more a display of style and skill while being compared to your peers. He took it as sideways nascar. I wonder if Alex's aggressive driving vs Sam was him retaliating. Given that most drivers disapproved of his style, I'd think so. Or maybe he knew that's what eh had to do to compete with Sam's style.

On the way to MotoRex yesterday, Forsberg was telling me what it was like to drive against the 700 hp NA torque at like 0 RPM Le Mans car. I told him, well you were close to beatign him this time, just put another $450,000 into your car so they cost the same, and maybe you can get him next time... Seriously, the price of that car's engine is like 2 of Chris's cars. http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/rolleyes1.gif If not more. Probably more.

That is what is so upsetting. Oh well. Hey after talking with Hiro from MotoRex for a little while, he told us that Akinori (one of the judges) said Chris would have won if (sam didn't make him) spin the last time. Oh well, thats cool. Its like Top Fuel Dragster showing up at Hot Import Nights (or whatever those import drag comps are called). http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/rolleyes1.gif

On another note, to have an aggressive style in D1 is one thing... the judges actually shun the forcing of another driver to spin. But D1 cars have to be street legal. Believe it or not, a lot of them are still daily driven (like the Night Walkers JZX110's, Suenaga's S13, Kuroi's 972ps S13, and a bunch of the lesser-known guys). But how can you have a Le Mans car go up against these other cars with no rules restricting that? http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/confused.gif http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/rolleyes1.gif

I'll tell you how. Unorganized. And someone at the event was probably screaming, "Show me the moneyyyyy!" Then ran away yelling "I'm rich Biotch!" Yeah that about sums it up, at least in my head.

from what i've heard from others involved in this (driver and some of the guys who tested various parts of the track to try to decide which section(s) to use), they have the same opinion of this event as Mechanical_Violater and others in this thread...

If I was Alex, I would have had some choice words for Sam that would all get censored here.

Gripping to catch up is cool (since you look lame tryin to catch up,) but gripping your corner enteries just so you can bump/overtake is really [censored] lame http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/mad.gif

On a better note, congrats to Chris and the rest of the DGTA guys, and everyone else who finished well.

Like I said, ram opponent, cut him off, chirp tires for the crowd, mash the peddle at corner exit. Profit.

Yea the more I think about it the more ridiculous that was. I think I will just stick to D1GP... they seem to have it down.

I've always said monster truck racing is the professional wrestling of motorsports. I think the drift racing seen in that video can be likened to an amateur figure skating competition with all the skaters on the ice at the same time http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Grip driving with the same cars at the same venue would be far more entertaining.

Yep, and they're going to Europe to film the Gumball this year, happens begining of May.

The driver of the Buick in that Dually Drift vid is "Sav", a good friend of mine...he and Rasa make up IMV films.

The best thing about Alex Pfeiffer was that he doesn't give a [censored] about it. He competed, he lost, and afterwards he hopped the fence and had beer with the locals. All the other drivers joined in afterwards.

Mabye he's just a smart guy with a cool head, and wait to bring it up to the judges before the next comp.

phew... I thought I was the only one that thought the Viper guy was driving like a Jackass. The AE86 spent half the time going in the dirt just to avoid an accident.

Well at least they put on a good show. watching the AE86 vs Viper was painful. watching it, i was hoping the Corolla would smash the Viper off the track on the last drift. "That's how you pass *****!!!"

Even thought there may be alot of "politics" involed in D1, from my take (which is minimal) formula D sucked. It seemed like it was just a ploy to get people out, and after that they didn't care. They had the worst announcers (from what I heard) ever as well as a stupid choice (since none is better) in music. Ugh.

But then again I guess no event will satisfy everyone...

Just my 50 nickels.

ok, first of all, I am a corner worker(Flag and Commuications) at Road atlanta. and I worked drift Atlanta.
For those people making comments about not having safety people at the Drift comp, should look into something b4 they start talking. If you havent noticed, SCCA sanctioned Drift Atlanta, hence all the races out there that nobody bothered to really pay attention to.And, SCCA provides corner official, fire safety, ambulances, wreckers and many other services to every sanctiioned event. Not only that, but Road Atlanta has their own tracdk crew including everything stated above. All safety measures were taken. As for plastic barriers to keep from "mowing the lawn", which would you rather do, run thourgh some kitty litter and grass or damage body parts because of a plastic barrier that can not only damage your car, but it impairs the view of the track coming up. and its just another excuse for more ads.
I assure you all precautions were taken. there were fire trucks and ambulances in several positions. There were an abundance of safety official during the drifitng(cuz we only had to work turn 10 complex)
I will agree that the Mopar Viper was a little aggressive in his driving, i think "no passing on the touge" should be put into play here, its not about who gets there first.but at leats he put on a good show, but what an neven matchup.
Formula D isnt a "ploy", yes they are trying to make money(but who isnt) if it wasnt for them, drifitn gwould have never come to Road Atlanta.and plus, Road Atlanta paed that new horeshoe just for Drift Atlanta
Yeah, the announcers did suck, they kept calling the 1st Gen rx-7s 300zxs.he didnt really know what he was talking about.
But anyways, i think thats enough, thanks for listening and thanks for your time. and remember before making discrediting coments about a Professional event and track(Road Atlanta holdsthe Petite Le Mans, and those cars are really quick and a lot of stuff can happen fast, so i think they can handle 2 cars going relatively slow(compared to a LM car)in a small area of the track.)please take the time to look around or just ask somebody.
oh yeah, sorry for *****in on my first post http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif

im not saying anybody is wrong and im not trying to disrespect anybody in any way, just kinda frustrating when all the workers out there put their life on the line everytime they work and hear those kin of comments,
oh yeah, sorry about the plastic barriers thing, i kinda got steamed up, im sure something can definitely be worked out. Hopefully, it will come back again next year, and undoubtedly, everybody will use last year to learn nore bout what we can do to make things better.afterall, this was one the first drift competitions, ehll they didnt have pit lane speed limits for a long time, somethings are learned by experience

That's great. While you are at it, also apologize to Ken Gushi for not telling ANY of the drivers (or even Slipstream) that you were firing fireworks to start each competition run.

What's done is already done; we move on and improve.
