Video of the Week - March 26th, 2009

By That Video Guy

April 3rd is the release date of Fast & Furious, the 4th installment of this movie series. That piqued my interest enough to get caught up before the premiere.

The Fast and the Furious - the original, stars Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster.

If you want a plot summary check it out at IMDB.

For a guy that’s usually pretty interested in the action genre, I’m not sure why I never checked this movie out before. It’s actually a pretty fast paced movie with minimal Keanu Reeves acting and lines… You know, those one liners that you just role your eyes and you’re yelling “who wrote this crap!”

You get plenty of mod car action and speed. Action scenes and car chases are pretty well done and just frequent enough where the movie doesn’t seem to drag. Chase scenes are not quite as good as Ronin as Frankie Lane alluded to. Still after watching this movie you are left wanting to find out more about these characters. Furthermore, I think I will have to consider paying for at least a discounted ticket for the new movie.

Here’s my rating scale
5 - Pay full price opening weekend
4 - Matinee (discount)
3 - Rent it today
2 - Put it in your Netflix queue
1 - Don’t bother

Final Score card:
Car chases (4 in total): 3.5
Car demolition (explosion or crash) (3): 3.0
Car races (4): 3.0
Fist or Gun Fights (4): 2.0

Overall Score: 2.875

Final Recommendation: Put it in your Netflix queue

Psh

The first F&F was great, ever since then it's just been a bunch of crap. I give it a 1.5 using your scale.

Will I understand what is

Will I understand what is going on in this movie if I didn't see the first three?

Ronin

Yes.. definitely the best car chase scene ever is in Ronin... Best fight scene is from Matrix... I would disagree with the ratings on the Car Races. Should be higher, they are pretty top notch in Fast and the Furious. Great movie though... might be a little bias because of my handle :).

Now this is a good review!

Now this is a good review! I like to know what my expectations should be, and while I do love Paul Walker (omg!), I can also wait to watch him over and over on Netflix and save my $15. Thanks for the info!
