We'd like to know what you think of Nissan's current marketing campaign..."Nissan Driven."
Does it work? Does it suck? Do you prefer the previous "Enjoy the Ride" campaign?
Let us know!
well, the 'driven' campaign does give the nissan image a little more edge than 'enjoy the ride'. i think a few more 'bad ***' cars are in order to compliment their new 'bad ***' campaign. =P

Yeah, Nissan needs to bring over a high performance car to really match their edgy advertising.
I did like the Xterra tv ads...very well done. And the drifting Maxima commercial was very cool.

What's weird is when people talk about Honda and Toyota in the US, they don't mention Nissan even though Nissans are very comprable in quality. I wonder if Nissan's reputation's been tarnished with some clunkers in the past. Nissan is sometimes the ugly duckling compared to Toyota and Honda. Ithink Nissan is begning to shed some of this image with much more exciting cars...but the Z will be the one that breaks the camel's back?

While the media doesn't seem to compare Nissan to the others in the quality aspect, the general public does. While they may not look at a Nissan when they want to buy a car, they still know Nissan has really good quality.
i know a lot of people in the market for new cars lately, and when they ask for my opinion i try to lean them toward nissans. ive gotten a suprisingly high ammount of responses from them about how nissan's broke or that theyll go out of business.. though not true, it kinda does reflect the consumer's views on nissan.

I can't understand why Nissan is not regarded as equal with Toyota and Honda in the US. Where I live in New Zealand, Nissan Maxima outsells both Camry and Accord, even the Nissan Primera outsells Camry & Accord as well. Nissan is regarded as equal if not better than Toyota & Honda.
anyone here ever see the movie gung ho?

Quite honestly I think it had to do with the downmarket look of the 80s Sentras. Honda was doing a nice job with the Civis and Accords. Toyota was doing a decent job with the Corolla, Camry, and the Cressida.
I don't understand it either. I always thought Nissan had more reliable cars. Don't they use better parts? I also see many old Maximas and Nissan trucks then any Toyota car even I own an 87 Maxima and it works just fine!
But about the marketing I think its just right. Finally. Interesting commerials with some fun music unlike those boring nosense Honda any Toyota commercials. This gives Nissan a young buyer image, especially the Xterra they should get some future buyers down the road.
Oh yeah did anyone see the new Maxima commercial?

Which one?? The one with shots of the engine and brags about the "Ten Best Engines" award or the one that show the Robots building the car and says, "Details overlooked: 0" ?? I like the second one the most. You're right~ I doubt we'll see a Camry with ads like that!

i like the new "driven" ads. the "enjoy the ride" ads and "dogs love trucks" ads were a little too feminine. the "driven" ads are more aggressive in how they are stressing performance and ruggedness (maxima and Xterra). I didn't understand the "dogs love trucks" ads, little childish in my opinion, kids aren't the ones buying trucks, men are. i think the "driven" ads can be successful if Nissan can stick with it for a few years kinda like Toyota with their "everyday" ads (i think "driven" is a better motto than "everyday", what do they mean by everyday anyway?) the "driven" ads also go well together with the bold new products nissan has been putting out.

The "ten best" ad shows shots of eninge cut-outs and the text says. "Horsepower increased: 17%," then, "Torque increased: 6%" and finally, "Bragging rights increased: 100%" It uses that "YEEEAAAOOOOWWW" music from "The Who"

I think Nissan is going to feel some pain in the marketing area. Jason Vines, vice president of External Affairs at Nissan North America, just left for Ford Motor Co. where he will become their new VP of Communications. Jason was named an automotive All Star by Automotive News for his roll in US marketing efforts at Nissan.

I got around to posting it in our News/Main menu.
As for who will hold up the fort, Jed Connelly (Nissan Division VP) will probably be the new mouth piece temporarily. He's been quoted in the past weeks more often probably due to Vines' pending departure.
I don't know if Nissan will hire anyone from the outside or promote from within.

Interesting article from auto.com
TOKYO, Feb 11 (Reuters) - Japan's Nissan Motor Co <7201.T> plans 10 new models for North America to reach an annual sales target there of one million vehicles, a Japanese financial daily reported on Friday.
Nissan, which has embarked on a massive three-year restructuring plan, aims to reach the one-million mark in the year ending March 31, 2003, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun said, citing company sources.
The target would mark a 40 percent increase from the 710,000 vehicles Nissan estimates it will sell in North America through this March, it said.
Among the 10 new cars planned are a redesigned Sentra sedan, produced in Mexico, and a Pathfinder sports utility with a 3,500 cc engine, it said.
Nissan plans to remodel its U.S.-made Altima sedan between fiscal 2001 and 2002 and start exporting from Japan new versions of the Q45 and Z Car as well as a new sports sedan, code-named XVL, the paper said.
Nissan embarked on a drastic restructuring in October, cutting 20,000 jobs and radically reforming its supply system.
Improved performance in the North American market is one of the keys to the Nissan's economic revival.
Nissan's North American operations posted an 80 billion yen ($733.9 million) net loss in the year to March 31, 1997. It expects to record 35 billion yen in operating profit in the current year, the paper reported.
A Nissan spokesman said the company wanted to push into North America but could not comment on the one million target or the 10 new models mentioned in the paper.
($1=109 yen)

We could get our first view of the new Sentra ads tomorrow [the 17th] at 4:00pm [pst] on the USA network. They will be broadcasting coverage of the Nissan Open golf tournament. Last year they previewed the Xterra with ads that looked nothing like the ads they show now. So, if you can bear to watch golf (hey, I live in Palm Springs. Nissan has fixed one major problem with their advertising. They are finnaly starting to show the cars!! Remember the ken and barbie commercials you never saw the car. The key to advertising is picture the prettiest models of each car and show it long enough so it sticks in peoples minds.
I really believe if Nissan has a mass media blitz with the new sentra and the pathfinders bigger engine you are gonna to continue to see increased sales figures. http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum//images/icons/grin.gif

Sorry I couldn't locate the post dealing with commercials, so I revived this one. I need your .02 on this one: With all the fuss about the 0-60 claims of the Q45 set aside, does anybody see a problem with the new Q's advertising? I DO! I see two commercials/ads alone concentrating on the new rearview/back up camera? Why base a car that is so revolutionary and high-tech like the new Q, so heavily around something as minor as that. Sure it's a good thing to have on any car, but to build and entire ad around it is a little too much. Why not concentrate on the sweet a$$ system all the testers loved, or the comfortable interior and controls? I feel Infiniti is still not quite on track yet as far as the new Q, but I know they will get it right soon. I hope the G35 is not as "marketably" disapointing.

I agree...
A car that is to be PERFORMANCE Luxury to have print ads with a friggin Parrot and an eye chart behind the car for it's rear view camera? How Campy and lame. This is not serious advertising or marketing.
Infiniti is so lost in it's mission...and people sence this...this is a problem and it is hurting sales.
Nissan division has great advertising.
But they too need to get on the ball and do teaser ads for upcoming vehicles before they are actually released. Start touting the SE-R and Altima NOW in print and television ads. The meadia needs to be bombarded to let the general Public know that Nissan is kicking some ass...

Yup! I think Nissan should start teasers ads on the Altima and SE-R too, kinda like the one Acura does on the RSX where it says "coming soon..." or the one Audi did a while ago on their Allroad where it showed some shots of the car and then it told you to go to their website for more info. Then a few weeks later they did a follow up and a full-length "non-teaser" type commercial. Nissan should start doing this so that potential Camry/Accord and Civic Si/Protege 5 buyers will stop in their tracks and reconsider.

Good cars sell good cars. flashy commercials are just flashy commercials. i watch the maxima commercial as it chases the sunset, are more people buying maximas, naa. still buying accords and camrys. build bland styled cars(timeless designs) that are reliable and they will sell. build bland cars that are powerful and reliable like the rsx and they will sell more. build bland cars that are powerful reliable and affordable like the civic si and they will sell even more. build cars in mexico and they will sell but things will be falling off, rattling, breaking, and causing headaches.

I like BMW's 'ultimate driving machine', and Lexi's 'passionate/relentless pursuit of perfection'. They not only portray the image, but also set a goal for the engineers and design studios to achieve. I even like Mazda's 'zum zum' and toyota's 'everyday people' better than Nissan's/Infiniti's. Nissan needs something in that nature. I still don't understand the 'driven' concept, and 'enjoy the drive' doesn't carry much passion. Maybe something like 'mind, body and soul'..
