I found an engine, and it has 150,000KM's on it.

It has 165-170 pounds of compression accros all 4 cylinders.

The guy who is selling it says to put a new timing chain in it, but the mechanic at Nissan said it should be fine.

Is there any symptoms for a old/worn out/looses timing chain? Do you think I should replace the chain even though i want to sell the car as soon as the engine is dumped in?

All input is greatly appriaciated. (spelling?)

Seeing as how you're selling the car right away, I don't see it being too much of a problem. timing chains aren't really suspect to catastrophic failure like belts are. I have a buddy with an '89 240 with 210,000 miles and his chain's needed replacement for 85,000 of them. the SOHC engines('89-'90 240) have a pesky chain guide that for some reason is made of plastic. It likes to break and can be replaced with a metal one from nissan, but it's a ********** to do and and if you're not gonna keep it, it's really not worth doing. As far as symptoms for it, when the chain is loose or the guide is broken, thre is sometimes a rattling/grinding noise at startup. also, engine performance won't be great because the chain will be alternatly slack then tight. And why're you getting rid of your 240? you'd be hard pressed to find a better price/performance deal. I personally love mine to death. best handling american nissan i can find(when you play with it a little) although a little underpowered. ,Sean

Either gonna buy a 91 or newer The DOHC seems to be better for bolt ons, or a MR2 Turbo if I can get a loan.
Also, I want something with really really low milage.
I want to go faster. Simple. http://forums.freshalloy.com/forum/images/icons/grin.gif

If you're gonna buy a 91 240 why don't you just get the 91 DOHC motor and drop it into your 89 and keep your 89 240 it will fit, or why not get the SR20DET from Japan, I think it would be cheaper than buying another car.

I Personally like the body style better on those cars. Also I want the coupe if I can get my hands on one. If I get another 240 I really want a S14, but for the price, compared to a MR2 Turbo, I'm gonna go with the MR2.
Just my personal taste is all.
