I'm not impressed. It's going to cost more and probably weight more, and all for what? Another 3-4 extra mpg. Don't Accords already get 30+mpg on the highway already?

Only the high-revving 4 bangers get 30+mpg on the highway.

According to Edmunds.com, the V6 Accord currently gets 21 mpg / 30 mpg (City/Hwy).

For the hybrid to give out 15 more Hp plus more torque and gaining 9/8 MPG (City/Hwy) is very good indeed. Good job Honda. More companies should offer this. I wonder what is the weight on the hybrid/non-hybrid Accord.

Heh a hybrid S2000 would be nice. Now if they could hybrid the NSX, then drop the price 30 or 40k, maybe the price would be almost justifiable.

I think a 43% improvement in City mileage and a 27% improvement in Hwy mileage is a major accomplishment for a revision of an existing car, especially when you consider that the car's horsepower actually went up, not down. To look at it another way: how many 255 horsepower family sedans can achieve 38 mpg? Considering that my V6 Accord is rated at 30 mpg but has regularly achieved mid-30's, I can only imagine what kind of real-world economy the Hybrid might be capable of? Mid-40's!? http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif

No doubt this hybrid version will get better gas mileage than the current V6, but I think you have it backwards, Nismo: the EPA estimates for hybrid vehicles are usually very optimistic...especially for highway mpg. I expect the city estimate of 30 to be more accurate but the highway mileage will be probably closer to mid thirties than upper thirties. Unless of course, these are not EPA estimates but rather Honda's own estimates, in which case they may be very accurate.

In any case, still a very impressive combo: power AND fuel economy....Honda's R&D in this segment should really pay off...looks like they won't be giving up the best premium family sedan title anytime in the next 20 years!
