Whats up, i have a 2001 IS300 w/ 73,xxx miles on it. It is in really great condition, all oil changes, everything done properly, just detailed the interior and had an OEM spoiler professionaly painted and installed (a little over $500 for that) and all the tires/brakes are new, the car is in really good condition. KBB, with those miles has the car at $17620 private party and $20295 retail. The average of those two numbers (usually the average is what the price of the car comes out to be) is $18957 but i am thinking about selling it, just thinking, asking for $17,500 obo. It has all options that came on the 2001 car except for the heated seats, but it does have a real, and tastefully done interior carbon fiber trim! Anyways, just wanted some input, may or may not sell it, but i want to see if it generates any interest at all for that price.
BTW: very good/clean carfax
One added note, the original owner of the car bought it as a yellow car. Early on he thought it wasnt a very good color for the car, so he had the people at LExus paint the car the Millenium silver of the 2001 model year. It is an amazing paint job, and i took it to an auto body shop before buying it: no damage at all, great condition, and he said that paint job alone would cost you $3500 out of a secondary auto body shop let alone lexus itself doing it. The first owner of the car was a son of a heart surgeon, living in beverly hills ca, it has been taken care of. He replaced it with a Porsche Carrerra 911!!
Anyways, an early thank you for any input!

so engine bay and everything that was once yellow is now silver? If not MAJOR depreciation. sounds like an $18000 car before the paint issue.

NO, the engine bay cannot be colored silver because that would mean taking the whole engine out and replacing it after paint which could result in serious damage if everything wasnt placed exactly the same. Actually, i have gotten compliments with the yellow in the engine bay, makes it look very cool if i may say so myself. Anyways, is $17,500 obo good or am i asking too much? ANything around here, even with 75,000 miles goes for around $18,400-ish http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/confused.gif

dude thats a weak excuse for a hack paint job. If I were in the market I would'nt touch that car. As soon as that hood goes up you've either lost the sale altogether, or 2-3k off the top. Same thing goes for the "tasteful" carbon fiber.
Ask for the stars. How fast do you want to sell it? whats it worth to you to get rid of quickly? I hear there is a lot of color blindness in Utah.

Would never buy a car that's been repainted, especially if it's re-painted a different color... http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

i am not going to sell it for sure, it isnt worth anything below $17,300 to me. Otherwise i will keep it. Like i said, i took it to an auto body, he said how much for it, i told him $15,900 and he said im gettin an excellent deal. As soon as i told him that it was repainted he said, "wow, it really doesnt look like it" and i went and talk to the people at lexus in van nuys and they remember painting the car, so i have no worries. As far as the hostility, i really like humor, but as soon as you start being rude is when you lose my respect, so even if you are going to make a joke, be my guest, but dont be rude please!

Everything sounds good to me. Have you checked on cars.com? It's a good place to check in to see what people are asking for their IS300's. Will sell or not, problem is that you won't know utill you put up for sale and do some advertising. It seems to me that its a buyers market, not a seller market.
I'd give it a shoot. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Start off with a higher number, you can always negotiate on your asking price. Make them feel like they are getting a deal.

the car is not actually for sale, i was just gauging interest. The car i wanted to buy instead ended up being too expensive for me (as i am only 18) so i decided to keep my car. The information was very good, nonetheless, so thank you!
