So I have to say one of my favorite features of the new M is the navi system. I was blown away by its clarity and the almost cartoonish graphics.

When I started to see pics of the real M, it looked like theyed gone more conventional - it doesn't look much better than the one in my FX.

Now the "final" M45 site is up in all its glory... and I see the cartoonish one again. I'm so confused.

Compare this pic (cropped from this pic (http://www.infinitinews.com/multimedia/infiniti2006/infiniti_m/color/2006_Infiniti_M_09.jpg) on infinitinews.com):

http://www.ruxp.net/newimg/posts/m45-nav1.jpg

... with the original one (now being presented as the current one) cropped from the new Infiniti M pages (http://www.infiniti.com/m/cma/v/m45/m_flash.html) (go to Technology, then Infiniti Controller, then click "navigation" in the blurb):

Given that they're now saying this is how it will look, should I feel tricked if I get to my dealer and find it doesn't look like this?

There's also the issue with the car being in the ocean in the top pic, but I see that as a secondary problem right now http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

The one from the "M" pages is not correct, probably being the best the website manager could do at the time. The one above it is closer but the new M system is graphically improved over the one in your FX...more three-dimensional and vastly better looking than Acura's.
When they're available head on down to the dealer and have a look.

Yeah, thats what I thought.

Just feels a little like bait and switch... http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/frown.gif

That's too bad to hear. I really liked the concept's beautiful navigation graphics. Does anyone who presently has a navigation system care to guess whether this sort of thing could be updated with a software revision?

When I sat in the M35 and M45 at the LA Auto Show, the navigation system was not up and running, so all I could see was the overall user interface for the car's systems, which looked more like the concept navigation. So there's that.

But, like you said, we'll just have to wait until the production version hits the dealers.

I have seen pictures of navis in Japan that look cartoonish in nissan vehicles. It could be that your bottom pic is from japan?

The graphics could be from a Japanese model. Seems like the whole site was pieced together quite hastily. If you notice the outline of the M showing the Bose system, it's obviously a Fuga (single-dual exhaust, rhd)

I have to agree. I also noticed that on the interior color page it shows the wheat interior with a black steering wheel and upper dash which isn't accurate given all the other pictures I've seen.

Anyone else notice that Infiniti got rid of the top cushion mounted seat controls? If you go to www.nissannews.com (http://www.nissannews.com) you can look at the '06 M35/45 Gallery which clearly shows them on the side of the seat.

I emailed someone from Nissan about witch navi, and the response was the generic, "Thank you for your intrest, and the groundbreaking 2006 M will be equipped with navigation as an option." Thanks for the answer I was looking for http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/confused.gif.

If you check out the Fuga website (http://www2.nissan.co.jp/FUGA/Y50/0410/EQUIP/main4.html) you can see the nav uses both types of graphics. I think if you use the top-down view you get the nicer graphics and if you use the 3/4 view you get the other graphics. Or it could depend on the scale you are using.

I am new to the forum but have been lurking for some time. I have been looking at the RL and was waiting for the M35 to come out prior to making a decision. One thing I may have missed is whether the Navi will have the real time traffic displayed like the RL does. This may not seem like a big deal in some areas but here in L.A. it is one of the big features that will go into my decision. I have seen this in action in an RL I demoed and it was pretty impressive. Any one know if Infiniti is contemplating offering this in the future?

Thanks

Unfortunately no, nowhere does Infiniti say anything about having real time traffic included with the navi, and if it did, they definitely would have mentioned it by now, seeing it's a cool option.

Not offered, at least not this first year. Can't go wrong with the RL, though. http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My question is - do the new models feature birdview? That was the main reason I liked the system in the G35/FX - if they've taken that away there's really no attraction for me to the system...

Sure ya can- it's got Wrong-Wheel Drive, which means it's a commuter car instead of a sports (or even "sporty") sedan. If Honda would have never engineered-in that one flaw, that car would have been mine!

By "Wrong-Wheel Drive" are you implying FWD? Because the RL is AWD now with what is being praised as a very advanced AWD implementation. Not saying I'd get one personally because it really does look like an Accord to me (in exterior styling; I know the Accord and the RL are VERY different cars), and I'm not a big fan of the current Accord styling.

if you are in LA, this feature is a nice thing to have as its probably the only city in the country that actually has most of the main roads pumping out traffic speed info. if you are anywhere else, this feature might disappooint you. in DC for instance, there is only 2 roads with speed info and BOTH are not the beltway. its still cool, but it has a few years to mature in a lot of cities. just check the acura website before you buy and you will get detailed info on the current and planned info that you will get in each city.

Hmmmm...... The RL has a clutch type lsd in the rear along with SH technology.... Wrong wheel drive my ass. Don't make assumptions until you drive one.
I don't know if you have ever driven the Prelude SH, but it was arguably one of the best handling FWD cars on the market. Apply that technology to AWD with a capable platform and you will have a winner.
We'll have to wait and see I suppose.

I think the RL is a good car, but its AWD system can only do so much to compensate for the fact that the car is still built on Honda's "Global Midsize" platform and therefore is quite front heavy. If Acura is serious about going after the Luxury car market they need to develop their own platform (or at the very least a platform that isn't shared w/ most of Honda's products). Look at the FM for example, it isn't shared with any Nissan vehicles, except the 350Z. You don't see the G35/M45 utilizing the FWD Altima platform that is also shared with the Murano, Maxima, etc. do you?

End of rant....back on topic.
