Spoke to a local dealer in CA and was told that markup on the 2006 M45 was going to be 10k.

Then that will make my decision about getting the Audi A6, with no markup. If true, another stupid Infiniti/Dealer trick..So sad...

Which part of California?
I learned my lesson last time, this time I'm waiting for the next rev of the car. No upgrade for me until 2006.

The dealer is just lying to you since you are interested in the car before it is at the showroom. They play this kind of game just to check to see if you are that stupid. If it is, that's great for the dealer.
If M45 has 10k markup, any fool would go with a LS430, 5series, or an E-class mercedes.

The dealer here in Tucson says they will follow the same practice as on the G35 coupe when it was in short supply - full sticker price with no extra mark-up or BS options like fabric protector on leather. The dealers you want to buy from will likely follow this practice.

I wouldn't. Besides, LS430 is a totally different car. I'd just wait till they stopped marking up, or I'd go to a different dealer...

If one is stupid enough to pay a 10K mark up, the dealer will be happy to oblige. http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/cool.gif

You wouldn't! Even a 5series or MB E-class? Or you would still continue to wait for no markup which will happen in 1 second or less.

We all know Infiniti has had no success selling expensive cars so lets hope they stay very eager and humble about this new car and not act like its the best thing since sliced bread and piss people off. There is tons of competition in this segment.

I would not get the Infiniti M at a $10k markup, that's just crazy.
With that said, at a more reasonable selling price (MSRP or below), I sure know I would rather have this car than a comparable Lexus, BMW or Benz. From feature content to acceleration/handling to price this car matches or betters its competition in nearly every category. I see no reason to spend $10-15k more for a BMW or Benz when the Infiniti is (from everything I've read and seen) just as refined, fast and feature laden. Not to mention, likely much more reliable. As for Lexus, their cars are wonderfully refined and typically trouble-free, but too isolated for those wanting a luxury sedan that is sporty and fun to drive. The only area that the M35/45 falls short for some, is "prestige". Some people are concerned with impressing others and that more than anything will lead them to their local Lexus or Benz dealership.

The question is would you still buy the M45 if it has a $10,000 mark up that makes it same cost as the Lexus,MB, or BMW. If the answer is "yes", M45 must be a very good bargain. Or you mean you would buy it at MSRP or less?

when the g35 sedan first came out, they were acting like they were doing you a favor by selling you the car. i'm guessing things wont be much different when this comes out if all the initial reviews are good

Same thing will happen with the M. Next year you'll be able to get into one for $45K and it will have fewer bugs than the 1st year car. I don't get 1st year car buyers. They must like to deal with problems.

For some reasons, I feel like Infiniti is getting it right this time with the new M. It won't have initial new car bugs like the G35 or cheap interiors. Nor as quality control issues like the QX56.
Let's hope my instinct is right!

First year reliability issues are a bigger concern w/ some carmakers more than others. I'm planning on buying a first year M35x due to the fact that my lease on my current car is up in September and the M really appeals to my needs/wants in a new car.
As for first year reliability for the M35/45, I look at it this way. The new M uses several components that have proven reliable in either the previous M or other Nissan/Infiniti products (i.e. engines, transmission, AWD system, platform, some suspension components, etc.) Of course it does have its fair share of new technology, but everything in life is a gamble. Just because you buy a first year car doesn't mean you will have problems just like buying a 2nd or 3rd year vehicle doesn't mean you'll have a trouble-free experience.

I agree. I think car manufacturers should skip year one of redesigns and go right to year two! Give me a break! In fact, I think one should wait until year 5 to be assured that all bugs have been worked out. http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/wink.gif

You're lucky. I've always had issues with 1st year cars. Never anything serious but they definitely were annoyances. I'd rather wait 1 year and get a better car and pay less to boot.

I meant I wouldn't buy the M with the markup. I'm against markups in principle, as I don't even want to pay MSRP for a car. If I HAD to choose a car at that price, I'd probably get the M45, but I'd rather not even buy a car then.

I was trying to say that i hope they stay humble and eager when selling the m45, but based on how they acted when they sold the g35, it probably wont happen. i loved the g35, but the attitude they had when they were selling it was a total turnoff. and adding a $10k markup to the m45 to go along with a bad attitude will turn a lot of people away from infiniti. adding that much to its MSRP puts it in 5 series territory. if the two cars are roughly equal in price, i'm sure most people will just buy the 5 series...

How does Grubbs deliver vehicles sold to people on the other side of the country, exactly? I think Danny discussed this before but I don't recall.

Maybe I have just been lucky, but I bought one of the first G35 sedans in May 2002, the first coupe in Oct. 2002, and an FX45 in May 2003. Not one problem with any of them. A far cry from my 7 BMWs, mostly 7-series, only one of which wasn't back to the dealer 3-4 times per year for something. My 1999 BMW 750iL was in for a recall, and 3 weeks later was recalled again. There was a recall on the recall. This for the 1999, which was in the fifth year of the model cycle.
I am now awaiting the first M45 to arrive in town mid February. Can't wait.

I think it is $800 to get it shipped. If I end up getting the M45, i'll just drive the G and trade it in or i'll fly down and drive the M back up. Might as well break the car in on it's maiden voyage!! http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I started leasing cars in 1995, initially BMWs. I have always chosen a 3 year term, and then let the dealer convince me it was worth trading for the next model. When my last BMW750iL lease expired, with negative equity of about $20,000, I chose to switch to Infiniti in May 2002 with the lease of a G35 sedan, with all available Cdn options. When the coupe came out in October, 2002, the sedan was still in high demand, so traded for the coupe, with the sedan depreciation equal to my 7 months of lease payments. The same happened with the coupe when 6 months later in May 2003, I traded the coupe for a loaded FX45.
Now in Feb. 2005, with 21 months of FX45 payments, I am negotiating to trade it for an M45 or Audi A6. Interestingly I was quoted by my Infiniti dealer a buyout for my FX45 at $52,500 (initial MSRP was $69,500 Cdn.), but that the trade-in value is only $46,500 for $6000 negative equity. Audi quoted me a 42 month lease payment of $1241 plus taxes, with $0 down, and that they would absorb $3000 of the $6000 negative equity. This car is coming in by the end of February.
Today I am meeting with my Infiniti dealer to see what he is prepared to offer me for a loaded M45 sport that is currently at sea.
The pros of the Audi are better gas mileage, 20% better than the FX45, I prefer the exterior styling of the A6, and a considerably bigger trunk. Can't judge for sure until I see the M45 in the flesh. Will keep you informed if interested.
