I tried to link it but the URL is buried. It's an OK read. Based more on specs and than real-world impressions. basically guessing at the potential success of the two cars.

In this review, they mentioned the new M is not to replace the FWD M30 coupe. What? The M30 coupe was based on the old 300ZX and is RWD. Am I right on this?

From looking at the pics, I have to say the exterior styling goes to the GS. The M will win in performance maybe. I can't wait for them to actually do the real world test.

The M30 was based off a Skyline platform, of course it was RWD. Sometimes I wish these writers would do some basic research or at least ask the guy in the next cubicle.

No! You are wrong. The M30 was based on a 300ZX once again.

Heehehee! You can tell I am the kind of person who argues a lot and very concern about what is right and what is wrong. I believe that's also why it's hard for me to get along with people. Alright...enough of my personal problem now!

I think you are right on the M30 though.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the M30 was based upon the 1986 - 1991 Nissan Leopard (F31). The chassis was not the 300ZX.

The Leopard at that time was positioned as a high end sport coupe to compete with the Toyota Soarer (Lexus SC430) and the now defunct Mazda Cosmos. Sort of a parallel universe Thunderbird / Monte Carlo market, but a little bit higher end.

No need to correct, the M30 was indeed based on the Leopard. When Infiniti and Lexus first came to market, they each had two cars in their lineups. The flagships for both brands were all-new cars. The entry level cars for both brands were aged technology, based on existing models that were already long in the tooth. The M30 was based on the Leopard and the ES was based on the first generation Camry. In 1991, I test drove both the M30 and the just-released G20 back to back. It was clear to me after driving both that the M30 was old technology and the G20 was new technology. I ended up buying a G20. Back then, the Q45 was just a bit out of my reach.

One thing I heard a long time ago was the M30 uses the same engine and transmission as the Z. Now is that correct?

Thanks, Rockstar. Good find and interesting article.

Just ignore people who are too lazy to type in the name of the website. I'm sure their mother cuts their food for them as well. http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Good discussion. I like to hear about late 1980s Japanese cars and especially the early launch of Lexus and Infiniti.

So what relation is the Leopard to the 300ZX? Any? Other than they are both RWD...
