I have recently seen close ups of the aluminum dash in the new M Sport models. It is growing on me. I would love to hear opinions of those that have seen it in person. I will be seeing the M in person this Monday at the Philly auto show and hope they have a sport model I can check out.
Do those who have seen this aluminum trim think it is "too much." Is it classy or more in tune with what a 20 year old might have on his 1985 Mustang? No offense to 20 year olds http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I think the Aluminum is pretty nice, it's textured, and I didnt' think it was too shiney (granted I was in Cobo Hall). I liked it quite a bit, but I liked the Rosewood more. They did something strange with the wood, some companys gloss the wood so much you don't know if it's wood, and Infinti has like NO gloss on it.

yea, they did it like the new Range Rove wood. It's more of a matte finish. I can also have dash kits made like this. A little more money, but more unique.

Folks are starting to move away from the "shiny" finish on the wood. I believe the 7 series was the first to go to more of a matte finish, now other luxury models seem to be going that way as well. It looks more real, but in certain applications it almost has a '70s wood paneling look to it. http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Jason, the non gloss trim is MORE EXPENSIVE? Any ideas why? It is because the wood has to be rubbed/sanded smooth? I guess the gloss covering is easier to apply smooth and requires less finishing work?

I kinda figured it's more expensive because it's new, rare, and harder to get than the standard glossy wood.

It's it is more. It's a combination of that, but mainly it's a more expensive matte clear coat that is used to give it that look. If you have even been in a new Range Rover it will look exactly like that. Gloss is much easier to do, and less expensive.
