Even the 2001 I30t limited edition had a woodrain similar to the early 2000 Q45 models. Whats the deal with that?? They should at least have an option for it..since is clearly for looks.

"Brand Management" is more than likely the reason they don't have a wood steering wheel option. A wood steering wheel would detract from the sporting image of the new M. It's fair to say it would literally detract from the sporting nature as well.

Exactly. One trait the Japanese copied from Mercedes that should just go away. Nothing uglier IMHO than wood steering wheels.

Surely it's a personal thing, but as for myself, I really do like those mercedes' wood steering wheels.

I think it would be so out of place on a car like the M. Does the BMW 5 really offer a wood steering wheel?

Q from LS430, I would have guessed that looking at your present and past cars. (ducking)
Seriously, in my view it draws attention away from the overall look of the interior. Nothing better than a nice thick leather-wrapped wheel.

Good thing you ducked.
Nonetheless, its kind of silly to argue that people who like it shouldn't be able to spend their good money on it, with the only reason being that you don't like it.
Know what I mean?

I think wood wheels are gorgous. Hell all OLD sports cars had wood wheels. If its THAT serious, you will need driving gloves, no matter wood or leather steering wheel.
You would swear people go to the track and race here by some of these posts...

Well, there's always aftermarket if some really wants it. That's assuming that the aftermarket thinks there's a good reason to make it in the first place.
I personally don't think a wood wheel is the right look for this ar. It's not like there's not enough wood in it already. And somehow the wood wheel would just clash with the all aluminum Sport model.

They are not necessarily ugly, it just depends on the type of car. I agree the new M with a wood grain steering will definitely be out of place. The pattern wood and the textured look of it is just way too "furnitured" for driving. But I rather like the look of the Mercedes Benz's that offer a wood grain wheel. http://forums.freshalloy.com/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Personally, I like wood steering wheels. My GF has a RX300 with wood and it looks really nice and the steering wheel feels good to the touch. The wheel in this pic looks pretty good:

Exactly what the well bespoked lady or gentleman driver would wear in those days, driving gloves. They were considered de rigueur for any serious driver. Then, it was real wood on a solid frame. Now, it is just a veneer.

ugghh...that is nasty. The wood looks horrible. Personally, I like wood steering wheels (I35, LS430, etc..) but the one above just looks hideous!!
