I have two quick questions concerning my 2005 Pathfinder. I'm having a clicking sound at idle, which sort of sounds like a cricket. I know there have been some posts about a known problem that occurs at around 2200 RPM and up, but I haven't noticed anyone talking about it at idle. Without actually uploading a sound file, does anyone know if the clicking sound everyone else talks about could happen at around 650 RPM? As soon as I raise the idle by an almost undetectable amount, it disappears.

My second question also deals with idle RPM and oil pressure. My idle seems a little low at times and a little rough. At the same time, my oil pressure gauge sits fairly low and while I might just be paranoid, I thought I'd post an image of my gauges at idle for comments or reassurance.

Thanks!

I don't have any clicking sound at idle. My oil pressure gauge sits low at idle but raises when I accelerate. My 01 Tundra did the same thing and it was normal so I guess I have not worried about this one too much.

I'm taking it in on Wednesday for my second oil change and will have them investigate the clicking at the same time. As for the low sitting oil pressure needle, that must be normal for this engine and something I'm just not used to.

Well, the dealer wasn't able to find the source of the clicking sound, but luckily I did. In case anyone cares, I've seen many posts concerning a rattle or clicking coming from the dash. This includes a few, who like my case, claim it only occurs at idle. It seems that in many of these cases, the noise is actually coming from the engine compartment. In my case it turned out to the one of the two fuse boxes near the firewall on the passenger's side. I found it by leaving the car in idle with a passenger in the cabin listening for the clicking, while I touched components under the hood. Oddly, the noise wasn't really noticable from my perspective, but from within the cabin it was really annoying. Once I located the source of the problem, I slapped a piece of duct tape on it as a temporary solution. It's now been two days and the noise is completely gone.

I had the manifold replaced per the TSB to cure the 2200 RPM rattle. Subsequently I had an intermittent rattle/vibration at idle, apparently when the electric fan kicked in and pulled the idle speed down. I discovered the corner of the bracket to which the air conditioner line is connected near the master cylinder was touching the firewall. It was vibrating at the lower RPM and had even drilled a small hole into the paint. I bent it outward and the problem, and the noise, is gone.
