This 1995 Infinity J30 with 93000 miles failed for state inspection-
car will move in drive while parking brake applied. I tighten the
10mm nut located just above the pedal, now parking brake pedal
became more firm, I can't push the car in neutral while emergency
brake is on, but when car is running in drive, it can still
overpower parking brake.

I have not done brake job at the rear wheel, pads or rotor not
changed, owned for last 20000 miles. Need your help what it
could be that parking brake wont hold the car in drive. If I
tighen any more the 10mm nut, it may break the brake cable.

Any suggestions.

Tightening the cable at the lever will do nothing if the shoes in the rear are not close enough to the drum. You need to take the rear wheel off to access the rear park brake which is inside the rotor center drum. A plug on the outside of the drum can be removed so that the star wheel can be adjusted to give the park brake a little drag.

Then when you pull up on the lever, you will have a brake.

Thanks, I will remove rotor and inspect parking brake drum
on the rear wheels.

Thanks shadetreenissan. You are right is best remove the wheel, calper, rotor/drum. Then spray clean and adjust
the starwheel. Problem is solved now.

I will never adjust the adjustment screw again. Thanks again.
