taillamp installation

I had a trailer hitch and wiring installed on a 2004 pathy and noticed something that did not look right after I got it back.

Is this gap supposed to be here between the top of the taillamp and the body? Should there be a gasket of some kind that may have been left off when the taillamp was removed?

I was hoping someone with 2000-2004 could look and see if theirs is the same way. Thanks.

yep, both sides are identical. I got a few responses on another forum and found that this is normal. I was concerned that a gasket may have been left off when the lighting cables were added. All, or most, the water draining from the roof will trail down the sides and leaves the possiblity to get alot of water intrusion into that area behind the light. Granted, it can drain out easily but just seems that it could be a better design

here try this, removed both taillamp assembly and swap them. see if works and let me know...
